Disney has insured they can make endless superhero movies ad nauseum by announcing their buy of comic giant Marvel Entertainment for a whopping 4 billion this week. Disney thinks the price tag is well worth it to acquire Marvel Entertainment’s assets.

“You can’t expect to pay a bargain price for premium assets,” Disney’s Chief Financial Officer Tom Staggs said during a press conference call. “Marvel is worth more inside Disney than outside Disney.

With the company’s acquisition of Marvel, Disney gains the rights to make endless silly movies about such legendary icons as Iron Man, Spider-Man, The X-Men and more. Or, maybe not.

Marvel Entertainment already has long-term deals in place with rival studios Sony, 20th Century Fox and Paramount for some of their most popular characters, such as The X-Men and Iron Man. So it may be that Disney will have to resort for the time being to mining some of Marvel’s lesser known heroic characters for material. How about a thrilling summer blockbuster about Nellie the Nurse?

One of the funniest responses to come out about the deal comes from comic writer Brian Lynch on Twitter: “First Disney/Marvel collaboration: Hanna Montana refuses to reveal secret identity, goes to war with Iron Man.” Or, maybe even better, “Donald Duck and Howard the Duck just met at Chateau Marmon to work some shit out.”
