Meredith Baxter Comes Out on Today Show – VIDEO
Family Ties star Meredith Baxter came out as a lesbian Wednesday during an interview on the Today Show. Baxter was recently spotted on board a Sweet lesbian cruise and decided to go public to avoid further tabloid speculation about her sexual orientation.
In an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today Show, Meredith Baxter revealed she began having relationships with women seven years ago. Baxter said she has been with her current partner, contractor Nancy Locke, for the past four years and the couple lives “very out lives in Los Angeles.”
Meredith Baxter, known then as Meredith Baxter Birney, starred as the matriarch on Family Ties for seven years and has been married three times. She has three children with former husband David Birney and two with former husband Robert Lewis Bush.
“I am a lesbian, and it was a later-in-life recognition,” Baxter told Matt Lauer. Baxter said her children has been very “loving and supportive” since she came out to them. The former Family Ties star said she doesn’t want to “be worried all the time” about hiding her sexuality and says she is “extraordinarily happy” with her life.
