New The X Factor 2012 judges panel member Britney Spears is pleased to be in the South. Demi Lovato, meanwhile, looks like she would like to have a nap as she lounges around and talks about having to be on tour at the same time as The X Factor USA season 2 auditions. Simon Cowell and L. A. Reid are looking forward to some fresh new talent.
The X Factor 2012 judges wonder what happened to all the people as they drive through Greensboro, NC. Well, apparently all the residents are at The X Factor auditions! Simon Cowell stops in for some grits and pie at a local diner before the show begins.
To kick off the evening, we have a sweet Southern boy with great manners and a fabulous voice. Willie Jones, 18, who drove 14 hours from Louisiana with his family, calls everyone Mr. and Miss. He’s very cute and wow, that voice coming out of him is quite unexpected. Such a deep, very country voice, very cool.
Judges: All the judges are loving Willie Jones. L. A. Reid says he is original and perfect. Really amazing. Demi Lovato says she loves his style and says she loves how likeable he is. Britney Spears says he was very unexpected and original. Simon Cowell says he has a great recording voice and he has exceeded his expections. He says this is why The X Factor 2012 judges came to Greensboro. Everyone votes yes and we’re off to a great start!
Next up we have one of those terrible auditions that just make you cringe and wonder why anyone would do something this embarrassing to themselves on national television. Good ole boy Kelvin McMangle obviously can’t sing and he is totally incomprehensible. No one can understand anything he says and he doesn’t even seem to know what he is supposed to be singing. I have to question again if they just pay some of these people to come on the show and suck so badly just for ‘entertainment’ value.
Judges: Obviously it is a no from all the judges. Britney Spears says she has fear she might be related to Kelvin in some way. Simon Cowell says he didn’t understand anything the guy said. The judges hit a low note when they fake Southern accents to reject Kelvin and send him home.
18-year-old Julia Bullock is up next and apparently her band mates (and ex-boyfriend) are none too pleased with her because she broke up the group and is auditioning solo. Well, sometimes you just gave to go it alone to shine and she does just that. Julia kicks the hell out of “Pumped Up Kicks” and has all the judges loving on her.
Judges: Simon Cowell tells her she is one of his favorites and he really likes her style and taste. She is really good. Britney says she likes her unique sound and she is a star. L. A. says she is great and exactly what they are looking for. He says he had a feeling when he saw her on stage. Demi says she is super talented and she really likes her. Four yes votes from the judges.
Krysten Colon, 21, is a hairdresser by day and has unfortunately decided to sing “Don’t You Remember” by Adele. She’s actually not bad, if a bit shaky, but Simon Cowell apparently HATES Adele. He’s already said previously in auditions that he doesn’t want to hear any more Adele. So he tells Kyrsten to stop singing and that he can’t hear who she is with that song. He tells her to come back with a different song. She offers gospel, he says no. He wants something classic. Simon seems to have a real problem with Krysten. Or maybe the Adele thing is just pissing him off. Wonder what Adele did to Simon…
Now we have an audition that really rocks with single father Jeffrey Gutt. I’m already pegging this guy as one of my favorites. Jeffrey says his son has never even heard him sing and he thinks this is his last chance to make it. Failure is just not an option for him. Jeffrey kills Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah”, which is a song way overdone on reality TV shows, but I don’t mind at all when this guy sings it.
Judges: Simon Cowell says the audition was brilliant and one of his favorite auditions ever. He loves it. Britney Spears gets a bit teary eyed and says she loved it as well. Demi says the thunder rolling through the building shows even God is rocking out to Jeffrey’s song. L. A. says it was awesome. All four judges vote yes!
We have a few really bad auditions while the storm in Greensboro grows worse. Thunder, lightning and the building is leaking. One lightning bolt nearly sends Britney Spears flying out of her seat.
Back to Krysten Colon, who has been practicing backstage. She is ready to perform again for the judges. Sadly for Krysten, this audition goes worse than the first one. Somewhere in there I think there is actually a good voice, but she is too nervous and the whole thing with Simon has messed her up.
Judges: Simon says the song just is not working for her. L. A. Reid says she blew it and her voice is just not good enough. She gets four no votes and goes nutsy backstage! She throws a water bottle. She freaks out and tries to hide behind a chair. Security is after her to calm down. Finally she flees out into the storm… I think the poor girl could use some meds. Really people, do you know how soul-crushing being told the dream you have had your whole life is not going to happen? I might turn into a drama queen biatch too!

There was definitely some great talent on tonight’s episode. I thought Willie was absolutely amazing. When he came in with that deep voice I was totally surprised. I thought Jeffery was awesome tonight also. His little son was so cute running out on the stage after his performance. This episode finally got me excited about the talent this season on X Factor.
