Tonight’s finale begins with a routine by the SYTYCD season 12 top 10 dancers and all-stars choreographed by Nick Flores and RJ Durrell . I loved everything about this opening number- the choreography, costumes, music, and the blending of street and stage styles. In the words of Jason Derulo,” I would pay to see that number.”
Jason’s Favorite Dance: Virgil and Joshua- Hip-Hop
I was really hoping someone was going to pick this dance because it was one of my favorites this season as well. The first time it was performed, I thought Joshua out-danced Virgil a bit, but Virgil was right up there with him this time. Virgil looked the most comfortable in this dance out of all his dances this season. Great choice!
Paula’s Favorite Dance #1: Edson and Megz- Contemporary
This was the first contemporary dance this season I really connected with. We see so many contemporary dances on this show, but Talia’s choreography is so fresh and there was something so raw about Megz’s performance in this number that just worked. Another great choice by Paula!
Paula’s Favorite Dance #2: Jaja and Ricky- Broadway
I loved this routine the first time for two reasons: it showed a much softer side of Jaja, which she sold 100%, and Ricky shows us how mature his dancing has become in one short year. Great combo for a fresh Broadway routine.
Cat’s Favorite Dance: Team Street Group Routine by NappyTabs
Thank God Cat picked this one- the only NappyTabs routine we got all season! The precision in this number was so amazing and I remember how hyped this one dance made viewers at the end of the first live show. From that point on, you knew team street wasn’t going down without a fight this season.
Twitch’s Favorite Dance: Gaby and Neptune- Contemporary
This is a beautiful routine with a beautiful message about overcoming discrimination. The first time Neptune danced this routine I was touched at how much this routine affected him as a person. And, it was even better the second time around.
Little Phoenix with All-star Cyrus
Ladies and gentleman, say hello to mini Jaja! For 10 years-old, this girl is insane at animation and I’m sure we will hearing her name in movies very soon!
Hailee’s Favorite Dance: Contemporary with Robert
I think there is something about dancing knowing the pressure is off that makes you dance better, because Hailee looked stronger than ever in this dance. Oh, and she nailed that kiss too. haha.
Travis’s Favorite Dance: Gaby and Joshua- Hip-Hip
This was definitely a break-out performance for Gaby, and she performed it just as well tonight as the first time. I have to point out how much Joshua Allen has killed it as an all-star this season! He’s always been one of my favorites and I’m so happy we got to see him so much this season.
American Ballet Theatre’s Herman Cornejo
Jason’s Favorite Dance #2: Team Stage Group Routine by Travis Wall
This was definitely one of the more artistic and dramatic routines of the season. While I thought it took too long to get to the actual dancing, I can see how it fits into the ghost story line of the piece.
Virgil’s Favorite Dance: Hip-Hop with Hailee
This was absolutely one of my early favorites- they blew everyone away and gained a ton of fans with this routine. This finale wouldn’t be right without seeing this dance again. Once again, they were so precise and in sync- loved it all over again!
Jim and Alex- Ballet
This routine is about a father who has never been there for his son and he turns up in his life out of the blue. The dance looks at how the son reacts to this event in his life. Finally, Jim is dancing with someone that matches his technical ability and the dance was astounding. These two really did look like they were related and the precision was mind-blowing. Wonderful dance!
Time for some results: Cat called Gaby and Hailee on to the stage and revealed that Hailee was eliminated from the competition. Gaby is now the top member of Team Stage.
Nigel’s Favorite Routine: Jaja and Alex- Contemporary
It’s hard to pick, but I think this is my favorite routine this season. It was the first routine to give me chills this season and it gave me chills again tonight. From the choreography, to the story, to Jaja’s brilliant portrayal of the character, it is truly a masterpiece.
Academy of Villians
Travis Wall and Jenna Dewan-Tatum
More Results: Cat called Team Street’s Jaja and Virgil to the stage and revealed that Virgil was eliminated from the competition. Jaja is the top dancer of season 12’s Team Street.
Jaja’s Favorite Dance: Hip-Hop with Jim
This was my first favorite dance of the season. I loved how natural Jim looked in this routine and Jaja just shined like a bright star. This was the moment when everyone knew Jaja was in it to win it, and the dance was even better tonight!
Top 20 Routine from Week One
I’m still amazed by how the choreographers of this dance got 20 completely different dancers to blend so well into one routine. This number was a great way to kick off season 12.
Gaby’s Favorite Dance: Contemporary with Robert
This was definitely one of the highlights of the season and Gaby was once again beautiful in it. Robert has also killed it this season as an all-star; he’s been in a lot of the most memorable routines.
