WARNING: THE VOICE SEASON 3 SPOILERS AHEAD!
This post contains spoilers from The Voice season 3. Please stop reading if you do not want to know what happened!
To kick off The Voice season 3 premiere tonight, the judges gather on stage for a fab performance of “Start It Up” by the Rolling Stones. A hot start to a steaming new season of The Voice 2012 season 3! Check out the awesome video of the coaches rocking it out below.
The first The Voice season 3 contestant to take the stage is Scottish singer Terry Mcdermott performing “Baba O’Riley”. A bit unorthodox perhaps, but a killer voice and the judges/coaches are totally on board. Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton all turn for Terry. Although Christina does not push her button, she tells him he has a radio quality voice. Blake says he could totally win this thing. After a short deliberation, Terry decides to go with Blake Shelton as his coach.
Up now on stage we have gospel singer De’Borah from Chicago with her rendition of “Hey Soul Sister”. Both Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera hit their buttons and spin around to see De’Borah in action. Christina promises she can do a lot with De’Borah’s voice, while Cee Lo says he is the right fit for her style. De’Borah happens to be a huge Christina fan though, so she decides to choose her as her coach.
Gracia Harrison is the next performer with “I Wanna Be a Cowboy Sweetheart” and she is a country singer and also yodels. The coaches are mad for her and she gets three of them to hit their buttons: Cee Lo Green, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine. Christina Aguilera does not spin for her, but tells her she is awesome. Adam really, really wants her and he and Cee Lo Green both say she is the best country singer to ever be on The Voice. However, Blake Shelton manages to convince her that he is absolutely the best fit for her style and she ends up choosing him — much to Adam’s dismay.
Sadly the next performance does not go so well and none of the judges hit their buttons for 16-year-old Garrett Gardner singing “Have You Ever Seen The Rain”. Gardner has problems with his notes, Blake says, and needs to have more time and experience under his belt.
Devon Deloera of West Texas takes on a Christina Aguilera song, which is certainly a bold move in auditioning in front of the diva herself. Happily for her, she kills it and manages to actually get Christina to spin around for her, followed closely by Blake and Adam. Everyone pleads their case, but Christina has this one in the bag and Devon chooses her for her coach.
Bryan Keith is the next singer and he is no stranger to the music business. His father is a singer with the Spanish Harlem Quartet and a winner of two Grammy Awards. He performs “It Will Rain” and he barely gets a note out before Blake is spinning around, followed by all three of the other judges. Everyone wants him and they all pitch him hard to join their team. Adam pushes him to choose him and says he will be very upset if he doesn’t! Bryan finally decides he will pick him and Adam is overjoyed because he thinks he got the win of the night.
Daniel Rosa auditioned last season but did not make it through. He returns again this time singing “Somebody That I Use To Know” and snags two judges: Cee Lo Green and Blake Shelton. While Adam did not press his button, he says Daniel is a great example of not giving up. For his coach, Daniel decides to choose Cee Lo Green.
Anita Antoinette is the next contestant and she is a graduate of the Berkley Music School. Unfortunately this does not mean very much as none of the judges turn around for her and her performance of “No Women, No Cry.” She tries the song again acapella, but they still are not loving it and tell her to try it again next season.
Next up is Texas boy Joe Kirkland singing “Gives You Hell”. Blake and Adam both hit their buttons to spin around. Although Blake flatters Joe by telling him he has star quality, Joe ends up choosing Adam as his coach.
Only two more contestants to go and up on stage now is Jessica Sharpe from North Carolina. Unfortunately her performance of “Son of a Preacher Man” does not move any of the judges to hit their buttons and she does not make it through to the next round. Christina tells her she just didn’t have the magic moment and Blake says she can give it a try again next season.
Last up tonight is Trevin Hunte from Queens, New York and he is a stunner singing “Listen”. Christina, Blake and Cee Lo all spin like tops to see this guy kill it, but Adam strangely does not. Blake wants to know what is wrong with Adam that he did not hit his button and the judges give the 18-year-old a standing ovation. All the judges are lavish with their praise, but it is Cee Lo Green who ends up landing Trevin on his team.

I love the show, its about talent, even though you can tell they are changing the styles of the contestants, it is season 3. After a couple season, shows start getting people from the industry in the shows, a platform for their fame, which is a cool thing but it can get very noticeable. I wish they would be able to put these guys through the competition, they are “RADIO FOR THE PEOPLE” a new boy band, check out their cover of Christina Aguilera’s “YOUR BODY” hope you like it the Voice is going to be great
I love how the judges are such a large part of this show. Not only are they part of the competition, but they also get up and perform. This really sets The Voice apart from all of the other reality shows just like it. I was talking to a coworker, and he thought that it gave them more credibility than those other shows’ judges. They are all successful current musicians so they don’t need to prove anything, but it is really fun to see them out there anyway. I would have been so mad if I missed Trevin’s stunning performance and Cee Lo’s bird!
