Are you looking forward to seeing some great dancing tonight? This week, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance takes its audition rounds to Los Angeles! Los Angeles is typically my favorite audition city because we see a variety of great talent from many genres of dance. I’m willing to bet we’ll get some great ballroom couples tonight, which is a genre that has been lacking in the audition rounds so far. Get ready to watch Nigel Lythgoe, Paula Abdul, and Jason DeRulo attempt to find America’s best dance talent on this week of SYTYCD 2015. Will your favorites make it to Vegas week? Last week’s episode of the SYTYCD 2015 auditions continued to show us different dancers auditioning for team street or team stage. Once in the Vegas round, the teams will come together and we will see Stephen “Twitch” Boss as the mentor for team street and Travis Wall as the mentor for team stage.
Tonight continues the So You Think You Can Dance 2015 audition rounds in Los Angeles. Will your favorite dancers get a ticket to the next round? The audition rounds have continued in Los Angeles. Let’s see what dance talent this city has to offer!
Asaf Goren, 23- Team Street
Asaf is here all the way from Israel and brings to the table a style called Hebrew breaking. He got tired of seeing breakers he looked the same so decided to incorporate his culture into dance. He definitely stands out because he came complete with a head scarf and a horn to begin his routine!
Judges’ comments: Asaf gets a standing ovation from everyone! Nigel said everyone is shocked at what they just saw, and he said it was bloody great. Paula said he has a great personality and will definitely remember him. Jason says he is a star and that he will change the world with his dancing. His confidence through Jason off but after he danced Jason believed him. Nigel says he looks like Rock Hudson and Jason said he looks like Aladdin. Asaf gets his ticket to Vegas.
Avo Karapetyan, 29- Team Stage Avo is a classically trained ballet dancer from Romania.
Judges’ comments: Avo also gets a standing ovation from the judges. Paula says she can’t critique perfection and he is brilliant. Nigel said he was a joy to watch. His lightness, elevation and technique were stunning. Jason stood and applauded him. Avo gets his ticket to Vegas.
Jana “JaJa” VanKova, 22- Team Street
We first saw Jaja on season 11, but the stage choreography made her stumble and she was cut before the top 20. The format change for season 12 is what brought Jaja back for another round. Honestly, everyone has been talking about this girl for a year straight, so I’m so glad she decided to come back.
Judges’ comments: Another standing ovation from the judges for JaJa. Jason said that was bananas and she became another being- she was a robot. He would pay money to see her. Paula said she is a little gift that spreads smiles to everyone. Nigel said its an honor to watch her and she is easily on to Vegas. Keep your eyes on this one this season!
Allen Genkin, 24- Team Stage
Allen first got into dancing at age 12 because his mom said there were a lot of pretty girls in dancing. When he was 15 years old, his mom died, and he started taking dancing more seriously to fulfill her dream for him. About 4 years ago, Allen was diagnosed with cancer and had surgery and chemotherapy, but family and dancing are what kept him going.
Judges’ comments: Paula said he was wonderful, light on his feet, sexy, and he was so amazing. Jason said as soon as he started moving he knew he was great. Nigel said he reminded him of Benji Schwimmer- so exciting. He has personality and heart. I’ve been a fan of Allen for awhile since his time with Ballroom With a Twist. He has loads of talent and is definitely a dancer to watch out for because I think he’ll go far. Allen is easily on his way to Vegas!
Illijaz & Burim Jusufi, 30 & 29- Team Street
These brothers just moved to Los Angeles about a month and a half ago from Switzerland and you can tell by their accents. ha. Both brothers think the other brother is better. Let’s find out.
Judges’ comments: They get a standing ovation. Nigel said they were incredible and he loved their musicality and their new moves. Paula says they are pretty darn exciting. Jason said it was entertainment at its finest. Great connection with the brothers and the audience. The brothers are on to Vegas.
Mary Kate Levoir, 21- Team Stage
Every season we see a dance dad, and Mary Kate has one! She said for her last dance costume her dad bedazzled her costume and her friend’s costume. What a good sport!
Judges’ comments: Nigel invites Mary Kate’s dad to come up and dance and Mary Kate to critique him. Nigel tells Mary she was tremendous. Paula said she did wonderful. Jason said she was really good. Mary Kate gets a ticket to Vegas.
James “B-Dash” Derrick, 26- Team Street
James didn’t want to be a victim to the street, so he decided to focus his efforts on dancing. He is an underground dancer that wants to make a career out of dancing and this audition is a new beginning for him.
Judges’ comments: Jason loves his animated krump- the animation made a world of difference. It felt like entertainment. Paula said he was phenomenal. Nigel tells James he is on to Vegas!
Jim Nowakowski, 25- Team Stage
Jim was born in Korea but adopted by and American family. He was born with a cleft palate and has undergone nine surgeries that produced a lot of face transformations. He was bullied when he was young, but always felt beautiful when he danced.
Judges’ comments: Jim gets a standing ovation from the judges. Nigel says Jim reminds him of Alex Wong. He said it was an absolute joy to watch Jim on stage and he was stunning. Paula said he is exceptional and he is a well-oiled machine. Jason said its unbelievable what he has accomplished. Jim is on to Vegas.
Cody Carlson, 19- Team Street
Cody is a freestyle hip-hop dancer with down-syndrome, but he doesn’t let anything hold him back. His mom is in the audience and he asks her to stand up and be recognized.
Judges’ comments: Cody gets a standing ovation from everyone. Jason said he is a born entertainer and he was connecting with everyone. Everyone starts chanting Cody’s name. Nigel tells Cody that dance will be in the Special Olympics, but the dancers in this competition are so technically-trained that this might not be the right competition for him. Nigel said he is proud of him for following through with his dancing. Paula said he is magnificent. Jason invites Cody to Vegas on his dime.
Jacy Jordan, 18- Team Stage
Jacy got into a car accident when she was 7 years old and almost lost her life. Her leg was severely damaged to where she was in a wheelchair for two years and she was told she would never walk again. But Jacy didn’t believe the doctors; she started physical therapy five days a week, started to get stronger, then got into dance.
Judges’ comments: Jason feels attached to her because he had a near-death experience too. He said how she came out of it and became such a beautiful dancer is inspiring and he’s touched by it and he held back his tears. Paula said dance keeps you going through the hardest of times and she saw incredible ability. Nigel said the fact that she is dancing is a miracle. Nigel passes on her for Vegas, Jason and Paula say yes and Jacy is on her way to Vegas.
Jessica Raybone, 29- Team Street
Jessica was born and raised in Japan and her sister is a TV host in Japan. With her sister being in the public eye, it was always hard for Jessica to have an identity, until she started dancing.
Judges’ comments: Paula said she is representing quirky, fun with a great smile. She is a breath of fresh air, but she needs more vocabulary with her movement. Jason said she was better than coffee. Nigel said she lit up the stage, needs more vocabulary, and she made him smile. Everyone says yes and Jessica is on to Vegas.
Kareem “Anointed” Ali, 22- Team Street
Kareem is a spiritual dancer and uses his divine energy to inspire his movement. He travels from state to state as a street performer to make a living.
Judges’ comments: Nigel said he was performing and had a great personality. He has brilliant moves. Paula said he has a gift and everyone was invited to his party. He’s clever and has his own lane. Jason said it takes a lot to be a street performer and he brought it on the stage. Kareem is on to Vegas.
Brandon Armstrong, 20- Team Stage
In 2012, Brandon auditioned with Lindsay Arnold but he was only 17. Now, Brandon is back to try out with Lindsay Arnold’s younger sister. Nigel had given him a ticket to go straight to Vegas in 2013, but he went and served a mission.
Judges’ comments: Nigel gives his partner a ticket to come back next year. Paula said he is stunning and has so much flair and style. Jason said he knows how to handle a woman and he’s the man in the partnership. Nigel said watch his facial expressions and his over-extensions, but he’s on to Vegas.
