Is Oprah Winfrey Moving Her Talk Show to Cable?

Oprah Winfrey has the most successful daytime talk show in syndication, but ratings for the show have fallen by a third in recent years. Could a move from broadcast television to cable give the show a fresh boost? Or would such a move tank the show for good?

That’s the question we may well soon have an answer to. Reports surfaced this week Oprah Winfrey is considering moving her talk show from its home in Chicago to Los Angeles – and switching the show over to her own brand new cable network. The Oprah Winfrey Network, otherwise known as OWN, has been in planning for years but has so far not quite gotten off the ground. Moving Oprah’s talk show to the network might just give it the push it needs to come out swinging.

CBS currently holds the contract for the Oprah Winfrey Show, but it will expire in 2011. Oprah hasn’t made any firm decisions yet, according to her reps, but she apparently does have something up her sleeve. A spokesperson for Harpo, Oprah’s production company, says the talk show diva is planning to make “an announcement before the end of the year.”

As for what kind of announcement that may be, we’ll just have to wait and see.
