When we last left Project Runway 2012, designer Andrea was MIA. Will she resurface or has she declared herself out? And how will it affect the designers in the workroom? Find out all the answers in the Project Runway recap!
The morning of this week’s Project Runway recap starts at the Atlas with Christopher fretting over how he and Andrea will get along. It also finds Kooan feeling quiet and not good. But the show must go on so everyone goes on a field trip to the new Michael Kors flagship store. I sense a challenge! But first, mentor Tim Gunn drops the bomb: Andrea is dunzo. She fled in the night with nary a word, as was hinted at last episode. “Fashion is not for sissies!” is Michael Kors’s take on it. So…I guess we’re taking her departure as a life lesson?
Back to fashion! Michael describes his client, thus leading into the challenge for this week of Project Runway season 10: design for a woman on the go. Stylish yet comfortable! And with their aesthetic thrown in. Of course it’s hard for everyone to focus. Gunnar’s take is that Andrea took “the coward’s way out…Way to be immature, Andrea.” Yes, because you are certainly the expert on that, sir.
Back to fashion again! The designers get to sketchin’ and describing their client, then off to Mood to spend $150. Buffi keeps going back to pink and Melissa is firmly owning that she’s going back to black. Kooan, meanwhile, keeps up with his new quiet approach to life, which is a bit disconcerting. Wasn’t he typecast as the fun goofy one from the get go?!
So then it’s off to the workroom to…talk more about Andrea. People! This is Project Runway, not Project High School! In the midst of the conversation, suddenly Kooan has an announcement. Something tells me it’s not a fun announcement, like “Hey everyone, I have an announcement, we should all shut our yaps and get to work,” which is the announcement that I would be making. So what is the actual announcement? Kooan thinks that he should go as well. The room erupts! I think Buffi’s eyes are going to pop out of her head! Nathan then starts to cry! Tim then comes in to try make sense of chaos! (And add that Andrea emailed them finally that she’s removing herself from the competition. Old news!) Kooan explains to Tim why he needs to leave, so Tim escorts him out after he says his goodbyes. OK, so, BACK TO FASHION, YES?
The Project Runway 2012 workroom finally becomes a place of work again. Until Tim comes back in to give an awesome Tim Gunn pep talk…and announce that they are bringing back Raul. Now everyone is happy!…except of course for Ven. This show is exhausting! Good thing I’m drinking a can of highly caffeinated pop.
The Project Runway season 10 designers carry on. Tim returns for consultations. Dmitry and Sonjia are on right track and Sonjia really wants to beat him. In the challenge, I mean. Ven says something and I zone out. Tim worries about Christopher seeming ambivalent but Christopher assures him he is in it to win it. Or at least stay out of the bottom. Melissa is into layering so I am in love with her now. The models come in for fittings. Fabio likes that his model has a butt; he does not like that the dress he made is short. “I see her fish whistle from here,” is how someone puts it. I think. I don’t see who says this but I can safely assume that it’s Gunnar. Melissa is concerned about time and Buffi is concerned, period after Christopher uses the term “resort-wear” about her outfit. It’s pink and purple and zebra so I’m not sure what type of resort…
On the day of the runway show everyone is still trying to wrap their heads around things still while Ven quietly sips his Haterade in the corner. In the workroom Christopher approaches Buffi to offer his black chiffon to use instead of her pink. She politely declines. Tim sends the models in and Raul discovers he is in big trouble, which of course makes Gunnar smile like he just stepped on a kitten tail or something.
Back on the Project Runway 2012 runway, Heidi sums up what has already gone down (you know, how fashion isn’t for sissies) and introduces the judges: Michael, Nina Garcia, guest judge Hayden Panettiere, and second guest judge designer Rachel Roy which makes me happy because at least someone will know what’s up. On to the show!
OK, so after the show, we are left with Sonjia, Dmitry, Christopher, Raul, Buffi, and Fabio. Sonjia’s grey dress is my personal favorite. The judges enjoy the fabric manipulation and the choice to do it in grey rather than black, and declare it conservative yet sexy. When it comes to Fabio, they are taken aback by structure. Michael prefers what Fabio is wearing and wants him to bring that out already. Rachel agrees. He has ropes around his neck for gosh sake! Also, as we noted, it’s too short. Christopher’s look is one Heidi loves, and so does Hayden. She wants the jacket, in fact. They both can’t believe he made it within that budget. Rachel enjoys his styling. When it comes to Buffi, Michael sums it up the best: it looks like a hairdresser smock–“Like she was cutting her hair, there was a fire in the beauty salon, she belted it, and she ran out in her zebra dress.” Fair enough! They also were not feeling Raul’s. Hayden threw the term “scrunchy crotch out” which is never a positive. Rachel points out that he was maybe a bit overambitious. Last up is Dmitry, who was my second favorite. (I like grey, OK?) Michael would have preferred a brighter color and Heidi likes it but wishes it was a bit hotter. Oh, Heidi! Rachel agrees that it is safe but in this case, safe is beautiful.
So is the winner for this week of Project Runway 2012? Sonjia! Hayden even asks to wear it at a red carpet event. Christopher, Dmitry, and Raul join her, leaving Fabio and Buffi in the bottom. And who is out between the two? That would be Buffi.
Next week’s Project Runway 2012 episode looks like it can be summed up in four terrifying words: Nina Garcia, team challenge. And it also looks like Elena is going to freak out again which should be delightful. Join us again for the Project Runway recap!

Great summary — very funny, although you didn’t indicate how you feel about Kooan’s departure (I assume you agree that Andrea was not good enough for this show).
P.S. Why doesn’t anybody like Ven? Am I the only one who thinks he should be in the running to win the whole thing?
