The Glee Project 2012 Recap: Actability!

With only one episode of The Glee Project 2012 left after tonight, this will decide who will be leaving before next week’s season finale. We will find out which hopefuls have the acting chops to possibly go all the way. Find out who the finalists will be on tonight’s The Glee Project 2012 recap!

So we’re down to five of The Glee Project season 2 cast members: Aylin, Michael, Blake, Ali, and Lily. Glee and The Glee Project 2012 casting director Robert Ulrich joins the fabulous five to reveal this week’s theme of Actability. I mean if you’re going to be on a scripted TV show you need to be able to act, yeah? This week’s homework assignment will be “Addicted to Love” by Robert Palmer…and MICHAEL IS THE ONLY ONE WHO KNOWS THIS. How is that possible?! Things like that make me feel old.

The Glee Project 2012 hopefuls rehearse and then come together to find out this week’s guest mentor, and it’s a good one: Dianna Agron, who plays Quinn Fabray on Glee. And there’s a twist to this week: everyone will be given an emotion on a cue card to act out while singing. Michael gets determined, Lily gets scared, Blake is angry, Aylin is anxious, and Ali’s excited. These five things combined make for an interesting performance. Everyone gets fairly good notes, but there can only be one winner…and it’s Michael! See, knowing hits from the 80’s while being angry pays off. In which case I should be like a gazillionaire. But I digress.

This week’s music video will be “Perfect” by Pink. And yes, there’s another twist: the video will actually be a movie trailer. For a Perfect movie that doesn’t exist. Aylin will be playing a Turkish girl with a conservative family who doesn’t know she’s been seeing the school quarterback…who has made her pregnant. Blake is said quarterback who isn’t the nicest of guys. Michael is his buddy and fellow football player who has fallen for Aylin. Ali is Michael’s sister who once dreamed of being an Olympic runner but that was ruined after a car accident. The driver of the car? Her friend Lily, who has been struggling ever since.

Nikki Anders, the vocal producer for The Glee Project 2012, is back in the booth to see if they can pull their roles into their vocals. Then it’s off to the video shoot!

Music video director for The Glee Project 2012 Erik White shows up on set to film the trailer. The Glee Project season 2 choreographer Zach Woodlee is also on hand. Part of it will include some improving on their parts. It starts out a bit slow for Lily and Ali so they pick it up a but then Lily gets a little too into it. Blake and Aylin film their scene and I have to say his cute factor goes down with the hair he’s sporting. He also plays a jerk really, really well. Then it’s Michael’s turn. Big fight scene! Which goes well, actually. Zach looks nervous. Good thing there’s bales o’ hay for safety! Cut back to Aylin. She wardrobes up in a Muslim headscarf, which clearly affects her, then hops into a car taking her away from Michael. The trailer turns out well I think. I mean the movie premise looks kind of convoluted but it’s not like it needed to be “Perfect,” right? (Sorry. That was bad.)

Before they reveal the three last chancers for this week’s The Glee Project recap, the mentors take the time to give teary shout outs to all of them. Zach cries, of course. So cute! Then Robert reveals that (one more twist!) they will ALL be doing last chance performances to Glee/The Glee Project 2012 co-creator Ryan Murphy…and the entire team of Glee writers. Song assignments are: Lily, “Son of a Preacher Man;” Michael, a stripped down version of “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun;” Ali, “Here’s to Us” by Halestorm; Blake, Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing;” and Aylin, “Fighter” by Christina Aguilera.

Ryan (sans his hat), the writers, and the mentors are ready for the performances. Michael is up first and I never imagined that “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” would make me so bummed out. I mean, in a good way. They don’t actually talk to them after they sing which is also kind of a bummer. Lily and does a great job acting-wise. I can tell cause Zach looks teary and happy at the same time. Ali is up next. I’ve never heard this song in my life but she seems to sing it well! And it appears to get the Zach seal of approval. (Can I just get Zach and Tim Gunn to follow me around and encourage me? Seriously!) Then it’s Blake’s turn and he gives a very peppy performance. Aylin is last up and messes up some of the lines (I used to be obsessed with this song, OK?) but does all right regardless. She picks up more towards the end I think.

It’s interesting to hear them all debate after the performances. They need to think who they want to write for but also who has star potential. Ryan makes the point that they should possibly cut more then one. I mean, since they’re at it. It’s a conundrum!

After the final commercial break promo which is also my final close my eyes and la la la really loudly to avoid spoilers which I am going to kind of miss, Robert posts the final callback list then goes to deliver the blow. So who will it be? Sadly, it won’t be Michael and Lily.

So…who WILL the winner be of The Glee Project 2012? Blake, Aylin, or Ali? Find out next week right here on the season finale of The Glee Project season 2 recap!!
