The Glee Project 2012 cast is down to six hopefuls looking to land a spot on Glee. This week’s episode they will tackle Romanticality which is sure to make for some interesting moments! Will there by any awkward kisses? Find this out and much more in this edition of The Glee Project recap!
Aylin and Lily seem to be talking which is good after last week’s dust up, though maybe it’s because they’re running out of people to talk to?
Robert Ulrich, Glee and The Glee Project 2012 casting director, comes in to reveal the theme of Romanticality. (Not a word!) Can they produce chemistry? The homework assignment may start to reveal it: “More than Words” by Extreme. Which brings me right back to junior high, which I have been trying to forget ever since I left it. As an added bonus Extreme member Nuno Bettencourt will be there accompany them. Now’s my chance to see if his hair is still crazy long!
They pair up for the homework by casting glances at each other. Blake and Ali meet eyes, as do Michael and Shanna; Lily aims for Blake and gets…Aylin. Oh the irony! (I still don’t have a firm grasp on irony.)
The next day arrives on The Glee Project season 2 and we greet both Nuno (his hair is shoulder length, by the way) and this week’s guest mentor, the handsome Darren Criss who plays Blaine Anderson on Glee. They nail the assignment as usual and there are two kisses! (Ali and Blake nuzzled noses instead of kissing, which was cute I have to say.) Shanna and Michael came off as a little stiff to Darren; Lily and Aylin, a little melodramatic. Blake and Ali were the pair to beat and Blake finally got a homework win! “All the girls get to say I won this, and I won that! And now I finally get to say…I won that,” was his take. (It’s funnier if you hear him say it, trust me. He does voices.) So what will this week’s video be? “We Found Love” by Rihanna, with a concept of high school students in detention sneaking away to enjoy some stolen moments. Or, as my BF put, “So…The Breakfast Club?”
As homework winner, Blake gets to pick his partner; naturally, it’s Ali. Lily is jealous as she has the hots for Blake. She gets Michael instead. He’s pretty easy on the eyes so she should suck it up. This leaves Shanna and Aylin. Let the romanticality begin! (Not a word.)
Nikki Anders, vocal producer for The Glee Project 2012, is hoping the pairs can make sweet music together. She ends up making a lot of interesting faces, as does Ryan Peterson, vocal engineer. Shanna finally falls short…and then overshoots. Could this be foreshadowing for her to her first last chance? Nikki is nervous for Michael but he shows her by finally breaking his doomed vocal booth streak. Lily also turns in a good performance, as does Ali. Ryan. And then there’s Blake, who leaves Ryan saying, “That was…interesting.” As it turns out, Blake cannot harmonize. “The crack in his armor,” as Nikki puts it.
At the shoot Erik White, The Glee Project season 2 video director, shows up to guide them through the concept. Lily and Michael are showing Robert more chemistry then he expected. And she was worried! Blake and Ail continue their playful streak. Aylin and Shanna are acting more then connecting, it would seem. They need to be less “swing dance,” more “cat and mouse” as choreographer Zach Woodlee puts it. The video turns out great. Very cute and then a bit steamy!
So half will be in the top, and half in the bottom. Which half will be which? Lily and Ali are the first two called back. No surprises there. Who will join them in the top? Not Shanna…not Aylin…and not Blake. Michael is safe! Shanna is shocked by this. But she wasn’t in the vocal booth with him now was she! So who will sing what? Blake gets “Losing My Religion” by R.E.M. Aylin gets “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack. And Shanna gets “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson.
As per usual Glee and The Glee Project 2012 co-creator Ryan Murphy is present in the theater for last chance performances. And as per usual he is wearing a hat. Aylin is up first and immediately Zach appears to tear up when she starts. He is too cute! Ryan likes her performance but points out that she forgets the words. But she does speak up for herself very well and discusses her desire to be a role model to girls with her background. Blake comes out and can barely say the title of the song so that’s not a good start. He does turn in a very earnest performance. And it also seems like he wants to crush the microphone with his death grip of nervousness. Then it’s Shanna’s turn. She wows them! They all have their pros and cons. I have to say I don’t know who will get the boot!
The answer is revealed after the commercial break with the obligatory “everyone, look away at next week’s promo so as not to see a spoiler!” lead-in. Robert posts the list while the depressing march music plays. He looks downright sad when he announces the list is up. And the name at the bottom is…Shanna.
Next week we’re down to five and they will be working with the theme of Actability. Which IS a word! Join us again for next week’s The Glee Project 2012 recap!
