So You Think You Can Dance Live Recap: Top 16 Perform (VIDEOS)

Last week on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, we saw our first dancers go home. Because of the new format and we saw two weeks worth of dances before anyone was cut, four dancers packed their bags on So You Think You Can Dance 2012! Tonight, we will see eight couples perform and then find out which two dancers will be headed home this week. As much as I hate the new format on SYTYCD 2012, I don’t mind seeing the dances and results in one night! These one night a week shows are going to be jam-packed, so don’t miss my So You Think You Can Dance Live Recap tonight!

I was shocked last week when it was Janaya FrenchAlexa Anderson and Witney Carson for the girls and Daniel Baker, Nick Bloxsom-Carter and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp for the guys in the bottom three on SYTYCD 9. Voting is huge on this show, which went to show last week. I never thought any of those guys would be in the bottom three and I definitely didn’t think Alexa Anderson would go home during the first elimination! Who do you think will be up for elimination tonight on So You Think You Can Dance 2012?

The eight couples will perform tonight and after they are done, the judges will announce who the dancers are that in danger of going home. Last week, the judges made up their mind and didn’t want to see any of them dance for their lives. That could change tonight. The judges have tonight’s performance to base their votes on, as well, so these dancers are under complete pressure, without even know if they could go home or not on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9.

WARNING: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE 2012 SPOILERS AHEAD!

Please stop reading here if you do not want So You Think You Can Dance 2012 spoilers about the Top 16 performance AND elimination results show!

*****************************************************************

The Top 16 get us started tonight, dancing their group routine together. It was cool being all black and white and then the bright red umbrella. I enjoy there group performances and think 20 is too many to have on one stage, so the lower numbers makes for a better performance.

Cat Deeley comes out and announces two pieces of bad news: after tonight’s show, SYTYCD 2012 is taking a two-week break because of the Olympics and then at the end of the show we will be loosing two more dancers! We then meet the judges, of course Nigel LythgoeMary Murphy and guest judge this week is Christina Applegate.

The first couple tonight is Tiffany Maher and George Lawrence II, who will be dancing a hip hop routine choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo. I absolutely loved this routine and not going to lie, George had me watching him the whole time. He was so good and kind of stole the limelight from Tiffany. Nigel said it was fun and it was perfect to open the show. He said it looked like George got tired towards the end of the routine. Mary said they were both cute and it was right for the two of them and Tiffany you were getting down. Christina said she did not expect that from neither of them and to make it soupier when it was slower in the song.

The next couple tonight is a new couple this week, Amber Jackson and Brandon Mithcell, dancing a jazz routine by Ray Leeper. This was awesome. It was sexy to watch and Amber has some moves man. She can get those legs spread wide and Brandon flings her around stage so well…loved it! Christina Applegate said none of us should be here watching you, that was so private. That was the best she has seen Amber dance and she completely forgot that Brandon was a stepper. Mary Murphy said there was definitely some soul in that bowl of cereal this morning. They have a sultry and soulful performance from Amber and Brandon did fabulous. Nigel Lythgoe said this was baby-making choreography.

The next couple tonight is Janelle Issis and Dareian Kujawa, who are dancing Latin Ballroom choreographed by Pasha. First of all, they are dancing to Call Me Maybe and I still love this song. I think Janelle does an excellent job, but I think Dareian was a little lackluster compared to her. The girl can work her hips, but I wanted to see more hips from Dareian. Mary said the trick over the head was amazing, but the transitions were so rough and not the best for her tonight. Christina said it is not their genre and they gave their best effort. Janelle sparkles and Dareian had some weird hand things going on. Nigel said the arm not doing any work is being forgotten about. He said Janelle is so sexy when she belly dances, but in this routine he did not find her sexy.

Next up are Lindsay Arnold and Cole Horibe, who are dancing a contemporary routine choreographed by Mandy Moore. Lindsay, the ballroom dancer, was so good in this routine and Cole, the martial artist, was even better. They both moved so freely and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Nigel Lythgoe said Lindsay’s spirit was in the right place tonight and Cole is meticulously perfect with his timing, but that could become boring and he is not boring, he is a genius. Mary Murphy said Lindsay has all the magic in the world and she wants to know what Cole cannot do. Christina Applegate said Cole is an enigma and she didn’t know Lindsay could do that so beautifully.

Our next couple tonight on my So You Think You Can Dance Live Recap is Amelia Lowe and Will Thomas, who are dancing a jazz routine choreographed by Mandy Moore. This was a fun routine and I think this is a couple that is great, but staying under the radar. I have complained about this before and I will do it again. Why do they put Will is such horrendous pants? Christina said their chemistry is so spot-on and they embrace the style every week. Nigel said he didn’t feel it at all this week and it was black and white and they didn’t connect. Mary said it is very good, but not as good as the other routines that they have done. Will is the best partner on the show and Amelia is phenomenal to watch.

The next couple tonight is Audrey Case and Matthew Kazmierczak, who are taking on a Hot Salsa routine choreographed by Liz Lira. They started out a little rough for me and it continued throughout it all. It looked like they were focusing on the moves too much and too tense. They needed to let loose and be hot, because we all know Matthew can be hot! Mary said they are still one of her favorite couples, but this just wasn’t on fire and this won’t be on their highlight reel. Christina said she was distracted by the music and maybe that’s why they were off tonight. Nigel said it was slow and not enough going on for him.

Up next on my So You Think You Can Dance Live Recap are Witney Carson and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp, who are dancing a contemporary routine choreographed by Stacey Tookey. Lindsay Arnold and Witney are both ballroom dancers and are good friends and they both rocked it out tonight to contemporary routines. She is sexy to watch and Chehon is a great partner….excellent. The judges give them a standing ovation! Christina said she thinks she is going to cry and they were the painters in that number. Chehon is a stunning dancer and Witney is great. Mary said they brought Whitney Houston’s voice to life and their most defining moment of this competition. Nigel said it hit them hard to be in the bottom last week and he is glad of their new routine in order to see this routine this week…it was absolutely flawless.

The last couple of the night on SYTYCD 2012 is Eliana Girard and Cyrus Spencerwho are dancing a hip hop routine by Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo. This could be great because this is more of Cyrus’ genre, so watch out. They do a robot theme, which fits right into his genre. Not gonna lie, I think Eliana nailed this more than Cyrus did. He has been disappointing me the past few weeks and he needs to step it up, but Eliana is an amazing dancer. The judges give another standing ovation. Mary Murphy said it was fabulous and they were fabulous doing it. Christina Applegate said it was so great and so entertaining. Nigel Lythgoe said it is fantastic to watch Cyrus and asked Eliana when ballerinas get swag.

Time for some results on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, as Cat Deeley calls all the dancers out onto the stage. The bottom three girls and bottom three guys tonight are: Amber Jackson, Lindsay Arnold, Eliana Girard, George Lawrence II, Brandon Mitchell and Dareian Kujawa. These six dancers are in danger of going home! So crazy and I am shocked…how about you? Nigel said the judges would like to see Amber, Eliana, Brandon and Dareian dance solo one more time, so those will be after the break!

Up first with her solo is Amber Jackson who does a decent job, but I think her partner dance tonight may save her. The first guy is Brandon Mitchell who owned it in his own genre. This was so good and you saw his personality come out. Eliana Girard is next and she just owns that stage. She is way too good to even be in the bottom three, so this is going to be hard tonight. I love all three of the girls. The final guy tonight is Dareian Kujawa who does a decent job and shows off some good moves. I think it is going to be Dareian and Amber going home tonight on So You Think You Can Dance 2012. What do you think?

The judges are given some time to discuss their decision and while they do that we get to watch a special performance from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This was fun and upbeat and I liked it, but let’s get those results!!! If you want to keep up on all the dancers from all nine season, check out the Fanaticly website and their Fanaticly app they offer for all SYTYCD news!

The judges are back with the So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 results! The bottom three girls come out and the judges decide to save Lindsay Arnold and Eliana Girard, so Amber Jackson is headed home tonight. The bottom three guys come out and the judges have decided to save George Lawrence II and Dareian Kujawa, so Brandon Mitchell will be heading home! Are you shocked by that?

I would say my least favorite dance of the evening was between Amber and Brandon’s, then Audrey and Matthew’s salsa was lackluster in my mind too. Many of the other performances were mediocre, with Tiffany and George, Witney and Chehon standing out the most. Overall, the competition is heating up!

  2. Yeah they don’t like black male dancers that’s why the winner of season four is a black male dancer and the runner was also a black male dance…..hmmm

  3. Gloria Brown says:

Brandon and Amber were spectacular dancing to an Aretha song. Nigel again was Mr. slather the choreographers and find something negative to say about the male dancer. Whatever dude. Your show, you get to decide who wins.

  4. Gloria Brown says:

And so it continues. Nigel and team’s critique of Black male dancers seem to be exceptionally harsh, while White female dancers get glowing reviews. George did an excellent job on the corny hip hop routine and Nigel’s comment was that he got tired at the end. Huh! Nigel spends more time complimenting the choreographers than giving fair critique to the dancers anyway. It is clear that Fox network doesn’t like black people. You see it on American Idol and you see it each year on So You Think You Can Dance. I wish black folks would boycott these shows.

    • scott robinson says:

[Don't name attack please.] you need to get a life and a reality check–you are the one with a problem about race not Nigel [although Fox probably dislikes anyone not white they are not judging this show on color and neither is American Idol]. [Forgive the edit, but personal attacks, even on people who seem like they might be deserving, are not allowed.]

    • I encourage you to boycott these shows yourself so you aren’t seeing all that horrible racism going on and so you don’t have to comment anymore about how racist they are and waste your valuable time.

    • I will answer this with a list:

      Season 1: Jamile, 3rd Place
      Season 2: Donyelle, 3rd Place
Season 3: Danny, Runner Up; Sabra, Winner
Season 4: Twitch, Runner Up; Joshua, Winner
      Season 5: Brandon, Runner Up
Season 6: Russel, Winner; Ellenore, 4th Place (okay, so I don’t know her exactly, but whatever!)

And those are just the ones that made Top 4. And you’re seriously calling this show racist? :P
