Well, the rumors have been flying around for American Idol ever since both Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez announced they would not be returning next season as judges on the hit Fox reality singing competition. Who would fill their chairs on the judges table? Well, Fox confirmed today that one of the seats will be filled by none other than the diva herself, Mariah Carey! She will join the judges table for American Idol Season 12.
This is a huge victory for Fox, but Mariah Carey has a new album coming out, so why not promote it and perform on American Idol? It’s what Jennifer Lopez did. It is rumored that Mariah will make around $17 million to be an American Idol judge. How crazy is that? I’ll be a judge for half that!
In a statement, Mariah Carey said: “As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol. I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and it’s first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon.”
No word yet if Randy Jackson will return as a judge, which he has been here from the beginning, but American Idol creator and executive producer Simon Fuller is ecstatic about the addition of Mariah: “We are proud to have one of the world’s greatest-ever female singers join our show. Mariah defines the word ‘Idol’ and will inspire every singer that has the honor of performing in front of her.”
So, what do you think? Will Mariah Carey make a good judge on American Idol or do you think she will be too much of a diva for the show? Tell me in the comments!
