We finally saw the Top 20 dancers take the stage together last week on So You Think You Can Dance 2012! As exciting as that was, we get to see them all hit the stage again tonight when the Top 20 pair up again on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9. When all is said and done tonight, we will see four dancers head home! That’s right…FOUR! You don’t want to miss my So You Think You Can Dance live recap tonight…it’s going to be jam-packed!
America voted last week and decided the bottom three for the guys and the bottom three for the girls. The judges take over from there and will determine which two guys and which two girls will be heading home after they all dance for their lives on So You Think You Can Dance 2012. This is such a great show and they all did well last week, so who knows who will be heading home tonight. Who do you think it will be?
The bad thing about this one-night-a-week thing on SYTYCD 2012 is that the dancers in jeopardy of going home tonight won’t find out until they are done dancing tonight! So, they could be dancing for no reason at all tonight, which seems pointless to me. I am interested to see how they do it tonight. I am also interested in seeing how they will pack all 20 dancers performances and then time to see the bottom three girls and bottom three guys dance for their lives and then the judges heading out to discuss. I feel it is going to be non-stop tonight, so you don’t want to miss a thing on So You Think You Can Dance 2012!

We kick off the night with a performance, yet again, by the Top 20 dancers. This one is real intense and freaky and I love it. I do notice that Cyrus Spencer stands out with not grasping the choreography. He does amazing in his genre, but choreography will be his downfall! The judges tonight are Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Adam Shankman.
The first couple tonight is Lindsay Arnold and Cole Horibe, who will be dancing to a Christopher Scott routine. They play a naughty dentist dance and it was so fun. It was cute and entertaining. Nigel said it was a fun start to the show and Lindsay is an incentive to go to the dentist, but it felt amateur to him. Mary said she thought it was terrific and great job. Adam said the American Dental Association should adopt this as their new campaign and Lindsay needs to take a deeper investment in her character.
Next up are Amelia Lowe and Will Thomas, who are dancing to a Sonya Tayeh routine tonight. Amelia shows off some great legwork tonight and I am impressed. Is it just me, or does Will get put in awkward pants every week? He always looks weird, but maybe it is because he is taller. Mary Murphy said that was a beautiful routine and they brought it to life and both have gone another floor up in her eyes. Adam Shankman gave them a standing ovation and said Amelia was so lost in that piece and Will stepped it up a million percent and it was brilliant. Nigel Lythgoe said the pair of you are lucky that you are together and are both brilliant dancers.
Our next couple on our So You Think You Can Dance Live Recap is Amber Johnson and Nick Bloxsom-Carter, who are dancing the first tango of the season. It was supposed to be sexy and sultry, but I was bored with this one. Their legs were just flying around too much and I wanted to see one of them kick the other to make it more entertaining. Adam said that was hot and the choreography treated you fabulously. Nigel said he thinks Amber made herself look good and Nick was very strong. Mary said it was a great routine and an extremely difficult routine and you made it look easy.
Next up are Audrey Case and Matthew Kazmierczak, who dance to a Sonya Tayeh routine. It is a good routine, but the music annoyed me. I think they did well and I want to thank Sonya for having Matthew dance shirtless…hello six-pack! Nigel Lythgoe said they are probably one of America’s favorite couples. Mary Murphy said she loves the way they dance and a dynamic duo for sure and one of her favorite routines tonight. Adam Shankman said Audrey is freakin’ brilliant and if Matthew keeps it up like that, it is his to lose.
Next up are Janelle Issis and Dareian Kujawa and they will be dancing to a Christopher Scott routine tonight on So You Think You Can Dance 2012. This was a fun one and I liked them…very entertaining and cute. Adam said Dareian was feeling the character, but Janelle needed to work on it some more. Nigel said they are both capable of more than what they were given with this routine and this could be tough on you. Mary said the routine was sweet and they did it okay.
Our next couple is Janaya French and Brandon Mitchell, who are dancing to a Broadway routine by Sean Cheesman. I wasn’t liking the routine with the music until the very end when Janaya did this amazing move…so great! Adam said that was super fun and a huge step up for Brandon and Janaya was great. Nigel said it was a lot of fun and Brandon was terrific and Janaya brought something this week she didn’t last week. Mary said it was one of the most entertaining pieces of the night.
Next up on SYTYCD 9 are Eliana Girard and Cyrus Spencer, who are dancing the first jive of the season. So, Cyrus started out okay for me, but then he lost it. I think the choreography got more intense and he fell short. I think Eliana is amazing, but he is bringing her down here, right? Mary Murphy said the transitions weren’t there and feetwork not there for Cyrus, but he was there to partner Eliana. Adam Shankman said it was amazing that Cyrus got through it and fantastic and Eliana is one of the hardest working women in Hollywood tonight. Nigel Lythgoe said Cyrus must connect the dots and Eliana is a superb dancer.
The dancing continues on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, as Alexa Anderson and Daniel Baker take the stage dancing a contemporary routine in a bathtub tonight! I think they are both great dancers and show off some great lines in this routine, but to me, I wasn’t feeling the emotion that the routine required. Adam said there was something very beautiful, but something chilly about it and he missed a connection between them. Mary said everything was executed to a T, but it was missing a little chemistry between the two of them. Nigel said the connection between them and us was lost.
Next up are Tiffany Maher and George Lawrence II, who will be dancing the Fox Trot tonight. First off, George is an amazing dancer. Second thing, this do very well with the fox trot and make a good couple. Mary Murphy said some tough stuff and Tiffany was living it up there and George is a great partner. Adam Shankman said they are in-freakin’-credible. Nigel Lythgoe said they make a terrific couple and they’ve just given a lesson to every other couple on how to connect.
The last couple of the night is Witney Carson and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp, who are dancing a Bollywood routing tonight! I loved this and they did an amazing job. It was fun and entertaining and worked well together. Witney is becoming my favorite girl more and more each week! Adam said the routine was so much fun and a great way to end the show. Mary said it was perfect and Chehon was on fire tonight and she felt the chemistry between them. Nigel said he was really delighted with them doing this and he is really pleased.
It is now time for all of the Top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance 2012 to take the stage and find out the six dancers in danger of leaving us tonight. Cat Deeley gets right to it and they are: Janaya French, Alexa Anderson and Witney Carson for the girls and Daniel Baker, Nick Bloxsom-Carter and Chehon Wespi-Tschopp for the guys! I am shocked and only two of them will be safe! Nigel said they talked with the choreographers from last week and this week and they will not need to see any of the six dancers dance one more time…they have made their decision! Who do you think it will be??? I am thinking Alexa and Daniel will be safe.
To waste some time before getting to the So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 results, we get a sneak peek at Step Up Revolution, which is produced by Adam Shankman. Then some of the Step Up Revolution dancers hit the stage for a routine, including Twitch!
Well, the time has come…time for the judges to announce what guy and what girl they will be saving tonight. Who is nervous? Nigel gives some lame talk and these are the best dancers they’ve had across the season. For the girls, the judges will be saving Witney Carson! So, leaving us tonight are Janaya French and Alexa Anderson. For the guys, the judges will be saving Chehon Wespi-Tschopp! So, leaving us tonight are Nick Bloxsom-Carter and Daniel Baker. I am shocked by that one, but I am mostly shocked with all of the bottom six! It should get interesting next week!

I absolutely loved the Jive that Janelle and Dareian performed for us. I thought it was fun and full of character, it was simply cute! I agree that Cyrus isn’t really dancing that much, I would like to see him do a performance with more choreographed dance steps. On the other hand I thought Eliana did a splendid job, she really executes each move and no move is an accident.
