I find nothing wrong with this story, but everyone is talking about it, so I am going to give my two cents on it. Hope Solo, goalkeeper for the 2008 Beijing Olympics USA Soccer Team. That soccer team won the gold medal that year. The soccer team appeared on The Today Show the next day after their victory. In a new ESPN the Magazine investigative story, Hope Solo admits that while doing that interview on Today her and her teammates were drunk! I say the more power to them!
So, you mean to tell me that the 2008 USA Women’s Soccer Team just won the gold medal and they decided to go out and celebrate and we are supposed to look down on them? Hope Solo admits to being drunk on Today Show after the victory and she does fumble her words in the interview, but besides that and looking a little rough, no one knows that they are drunk and in four year, no one ever said anything until now.
Here is what Hope Solo said happened after the victory: “I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but we met a bunch of celebrities. Vince Vaughn partied with us. Steve Byrne, the comedian. And at some point we decided to take the party back to the village, so we started talking to the security guards, showed off our gold medals, got their attention and snuck our group through without credentials—which is absolutely unheard of. I may have snuck a celebrity back to my room without anybody knowing, and snuck him back out. But that’s my Olympic secret. When we were done partying, we got out of our nice dresses, got back into our stadium coats and, at 7 a.m. with no sleep, went on the Today show drunk. Needless to say, we looked like hell.”
Rock on girl! These are girls that just worked their butts off and earned a gold medal in the biggest game of their lives. I say go out and celebrate like you’ve never celebrated before in your lives and don’t schedule them for a 7:00 a.m. interview! Not gonna lie, it makes me like Hope Solo a little but more!
