Can you believe it? After years of rumors, it looks like the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce is now finally going to happen! Actress Katie Holmes, 33, has officially filed for divorce in New York City from Rock of Ages star Tom Cruise. Even more shocking, Katie Holmes is seeking sole custody of their 6-year-old daughter Suri!
According to various tabloid reports and their unidentified sources, the Katie Holmes divorce filing came “out of the blue” for Rock of Ages star Tom Cruise. Although the two have been plagued by troubling rumors in the tabloids about their marriage — and Tom’s alleged controlling behavior — for years, the sudden move for a divorce allegedly stunned Tom Cruise.
Katie Holmes filed for divorce from Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise on Thursday in New York City. In the Tom Cruise divorce papers, Katie Holmes cites “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. That is a pretty standard catch-all for all kinds of marital problems, but we find it extremely odd and intriguing that Katie Holmes is also seeking sole custody of daughter Suri.
Tom Cruise has supposedly successfully shared custody of his two adopted children with former wife Nicole Kidman for many years. Why would Katie Holmes file for sole custody of the daughter she has raised with Tom Cruise and his other children for six years?
Katie Holmes’ attorney is remaining tight-lipped about the Tom Cruise divorce filing and the reason behind her desire to seek sole custody of Suri, saying only: “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”]
Holmes spokesperson released a press statement saying simply that “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”
There has been virtually nothing from Tom Cruise’s representatives about the Katie Holmes divorce filing yet, other than a note from one of his attorneys (not working on the divorce) saying: “Tom wants to be very private.”
