Tonight is the night…I promise! After all the auditions and four grueling days in Las Vegas, tonight we find out the Top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance 2012. Tonight is the 200th episode of So You Think You Can Dance TV show, so Fox is drawing this one out and planning a big hoopla for it. SYTYCD 2012 will welcome Zooey Deschanel to the judges table tonight, but I don’t think she will be needed, as far as it looks.
We are live on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, folks! Let’s the judges tonight on SYTYCD 2012: Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Zooey Deschanel. As we all know, Nigel tells us we will have a favorite male dancer and favorite female dancer winner for SYTYCD Season 9. With 35 dancers left, this is it…time for them to go to see the judges and we get to find out who the Top 20 are on So You Think You Can Dance 2012.
First contestant to find their fate on SYTYCD 2012 is Alexa Anderson, who was the last person cut before the Top 20 on SYTYCD Season 8…will she make it this year? Being first, we all know she is going to make it, right? Of course she makes it and she is the first girl to make the Top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance 2012.
The first guy waiting for his fate is George Lawrence II, who during his audition in Atlanta was told by Debbie Allen that he was born to dance. Debbie tells him he made quite an impression in Atlanta and he is in the Top 20! Joining him in the SYTYCD Season 9 Top 20 is Will Thomas, an L.A. audition standout. Megan Branch is up next and Mary Murphy was in love with her in Los Angeles and in Vegas, but Lil’ C tells her the road ends here and she is not in the Top 20. The bad news continues, as Colin Fuller will be headed home as well.
Up next is SYTYCD Fox veteran Amber Jackson, who auditioned during Season 6 and Season 7 and is back again. Third time is the charm, as Amber will be joining the SYTYCD Season 9 Top 20! Now we get our first look at the Top 20 perform live, as George, Amber, Alexa and Will take the stage doing a Tyce Diorio routine to the song, We Found Love by Jessie J. Not going to lie, this performance gave me chills. These dancers can dance, don’t you agree? They were so in sync and the song is so emotional…loved it! On a sidebar, who loves them some Cat Deeley? The judges all gave positive comments and I feel that will continue all night, so I am not going to bother putting down what they say, alrighty?
Back to the announcement of the Top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance 2012 and it is time to take a look at the ballroom dancers, as three from the Salt Lake City auditions have made it to the final 35: Witney Carson, Lindsay Arnold and Nick Bloxsom-Carter. Did any of them stand out enough to make it to the Top 20? Up first is Nick…he breaks down crying and said he can do this even before Tyce Diorio tells him he is in the Top 20! Witney and Lindsay have been friends for a long time and Cat Deeley sends them in together to meet the judges. We all know what that means…only one ballroom girl will make it through on SYTYCD 2012! Mary Murphy said they are both great and great technicians and Witney Carson is in the Top 20. They just can’t break the friendship up quite yet, so Lindsay Arnold will be in the Top 20 also! Nick, Witney and Lindsay dance together live doing a Jason Gilkison routine to Dance Again by Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull. Okay, this routine was just pure sex…so amazing and I loved it!
We looked at ballroom dancers last time and now it is time to look at the classically-trained dancers left in the final 35 on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9: Daniel Baker, Chehon Wespi-Tschopp and Eliana Girard. Mary Murphy told Eliana at her Los Angeles audition that she was definitely Top 20 material, but is that still true? Debbie Allen tells her she is walking on to the Top 20! Now it is down to Daniel and Chehon. Both have put their professional dancing careers on hold to try out for SYTYCD 2012, but can they both make it into the Top 20? They meet the judges together, but they can’t both make it can they? Well, they did it again and both Daniel and Chehon make it to the Top 20! They perform live for us all, but it is totally not my style. They are in sync and look good and can do some amazing jumps, but not my thing.
Time for more Top 20 decisions on SYTYCD 2012 and we have two jazz dancers to look at now: Tiffany Maher and Audrey Case. Up first is Tiffany and she will be in the Top 20. Will there be room for Audrey? Time for her to go in front of the judges. Adam Shankman tells her there are a lot of good girls and she is one of them, as she makes Top 20! It all can’t be good news on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, as Abigail Ruz, Kaitlynn Edgar, Katie Muth and Rebecca Hart are all sent home. Janelle Issis, the belly dancer, is next up in front of the judges…will she be the first belly dancer to make the Top 20? SYTYCD 2012 has its first belly dancer, as Janelle makes it! First she banged her head on the door coming back to the waiting room and now Janelle is sick and told not to dance by the doctors, so it will be just Tiffany and Audrey dancing for us tonight. They do well, but I wasn’t impressed…how about you?
If you remember, Joshua Alexander ended Vegas Week leaving on a stretcher after hitting his head during practice of a backward somersault. He never did his final routine, but did he show them enough prior to that to make SYTYCD 2012 Top 20? Adam Shankman tells him he isn’t joining Top 20 this season, but they insist he comes back next season. The bad news continued, as Blake Zelesnikar, Jasmine Mason and Daniel Kermidas all were sent home.
That leaves us with seven spots left (five guys and two girls) and 12 dancers left on SYTYCD 2012. Next up to find out their fate is Matthew Kazmierczak, who was told by Nigel Lythgoe he looks a little like Ryan Gosling, which is true! Everyone wants to see more of Matthew and he makes Top 20. This brought Darien Kujawa to tears, as he is emotional and it is touching to see people have their dreams come true and he is hoping it all happens for him as well. He may have bricks at the end of his feet, but Darien is still good enough for Top 20. Up next is Janaya French who has had a lot of lows since moving to L.A. and is hoping for that to change tonight.
As Janaya French goes in to find out her fate, we are down to just two girls left in the holding room…Amelia Lowe and Jill Johnson. Between the three girls, only two spots are still open on SYTYCD Season 9 Top 20. Of course Janaya makes Top 20, so that leaves one spot between Amelia and Jill…which one will get it? Amelia Lowe is Top 20 and Jill heads home. Matthew, Darien, Amelia and Janaya take the stage to perform for us live. A great routine, but I don’t know if I got all the good stuff from the first two routines, but the last few routines have not excited me.
We are now down to seven guys left and only three spots remaining on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9. Cole Horibe, the martial arts dancer, is up first for the guys. Mary Murphy tells him there are hills and valleys for dancers and he has no valleys, so Cole will be headed to the Top 20. However, it was bad news for tappers Aaron Turner and Zack Everhart, as we see no tap dancers in the Top 20 this season. That leaves us with four guys and two spots left.
Up next are steppers Devon McCullough and Brandon Mitchell, who go in front of the judges together. They both impressed during Vegas Week, but only one will make it…which one? Devon is sent home and Brandon is joining the Top 20 on SYTYCD 2012! That leaves us with our final two dancers to get their results…Feliciano Turk and Cyrus “Glitch” Spencer. I think we all know how this will end up. Cyrus wowed us all during the auditions and we all know he will make it. Cyrus struggled during Vegas Week with the choreography, yet Feliciano sailed through Vegas Week…who will make it? Nigel said he hasn’t seen anyone quite like Cyrus ever in his life and he will be joining the Top 20 and Feliciano is headed home. Cyrus, Brandon and Cole take the stage and oh my, that was so great. A very interesting routine and exciting to watch…it was choreographed great and I loved it!
Well, we have a half hour left of the show, so let’s see the So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 Top 20 dance some more. The Top 10 girls take the stage, as they perform a Travis Wall routine. This was a great routine, but I loved Travis when he was on the show and his choreography is great…good stuff!
Now it is time for the SYTYCD Season 9 Top 10 guys to take the stage, as they dance to a Sonya Tayeh routine. Sonya loves body contact and has these guys touching it up tonight. She says she loves these guys and is ready to eat them up! Sonya Tayeh always does interesting choreography and I enjoyed it, besides the weird maternity pants they were wearing.
We are at the end of the night and this is the one I have been waiting for all night. The So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 Top 20 take the stage dancing to a routine by my girl, Mia Michaels…there will be nothing but love for Mia all season, so be prepared! Another great routine from Mia…I love this woman. The Top 20 return on July 11 and partner up for the first time and two dancers will be headed home…don’t miss it!

As much as I love celebrating with those who are in the top 20, I really enjoy the dancing more. On that note, the “Dancing” show didn’t disappoint this time; however, I had to endure the vignettes. My family watches together, and my kids want to see every second. We watch with our PrimeTime Anytime recordings now ever since a friend and co-worker at Dish suggested saving time by using them for the Auto Hop feature. It trims 20 minutes an hour off our viewing time since we can watch commercial free. That means I don’t feel as impatient, and sometimes we can watch another show too.
