For So You Think You Can Dance 2012, the auditions have taken us to New York City, Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City and from there, we have seen 181 dancers move forward on the the next round of SYTYCD 2012. Tonight on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, those 181 dancers hit Las Vegas in hopes of being named American’s Favorite Male and Favorite Female Dancer for SYTYCD 2012.
The dancers take the stage tonight on So You Think You Can Dance 2012 in what FOX is calling the most dramatic Vegas Week ever on SYTYCD 2012. We’ve seen some amazing auditions so far this season on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, so you can expect that to continue in Las Vegas. In the previews for tonight, Mary Murphy and Tyce Diorio look like they are cutting no slack for the SYTYCD 2012 dancers, but to get the best they must be hard on them.
As grueling as Vegas Week may be on the So You Think You Can Dance 2012 dancers, it will be well worth it as a Top 20 male and female dancers will be named from this bunch of 181…and two will be named the winner of SYTYCD 2012. Time will tell who those dancers will be, but I am so ready to see all the drama of Vegas Week unfold tonight on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9. Oh yeah, the paramedics will arrive on scene tonight too for SYTYCD 2012, so keep reading!
After the next four days, the dancers will face eight grueling rounds: Solos, Hip Hop, Broadway, Jazz, Groups, Ballroom, Contemporary and Final Solos. Not everyone will make it through all of them and in the end, we will have 20 dancers left (10 males and 10 females). The judges table is packed tonight with Lil’ C, Debbie Allen, Tyce Diorio, Adam Shankman, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe.
Up first on SYTYCD 2012 Vegas Week are solos and if their solos aren’t good enough, they will be going home…we will have some quick exits tonight! The first dancer is Hampton “The Exorcist” Williams, who has been the talk of the So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 auditions. That continued, as all of the judges seemed to be speechless. For the next half hour, the dancers continued to hit the stage. After the first 10 solos, Nigel stops them and the judges discuss and call them all up. Jennifer and Brianna step forward and they are headed home, but the other eight are moving on to the next round.
Next up is Janelle Issis, the only belly dancer in the competition, and she works those sexy abs. This girl can definitely move those hips and makes you want to watch her. Nigel said if only she was sexy (jokingly). The dancers continued to impress, as SYTYCD 2012 is looking like it is going to be a very impressive season! But when all the solos were completed on So You Think You Can Dance 2012, the judges cut 51 dancers, including martial arts dancer Tim Conkel.
It is now time for the first round of choreography for SYTYCD 2012 Vegas Week! Up first is Hip Hop and Twitch and Comfort come in to teach them their steps. They said you can expect to see character and you can expect to see people sweating. So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 has seen a lot of Hip Hop dancers, including Boris Penton, Andre Rucker and Cyrus “Glitch” Spencer (a.k.a. Dragonhouse Dancers). Hampton Williams approaches the stage and the choreography is too fast for him and he has never had training, so he is leaving the competition!!! Do you believe that??? So, to add to it…Andre Rucker was having problems with the dance moves and he just leaves! How can they struggle in their own genre?
Time for the first group to hit the stage for Hip Hop, including Boris Penton. After the routine, Boris is called up and he is sent home…the Dragonhouse Dancers are falling fast! Joining Boris on the flight home is Praying Mantis dancer Gene Lonardo and mother of two, Bree Hafen (awww, her kids made me cry). Hip Hop proved to be a success for many of them, as 97 dancers have made it through so far, but time for the last Dragonhouse Dancer to hit the stage…will Cyrus “Glitch” Spencer make the group proud? The last group all makes it through, so Cyrus is moving on!
Let’s do a check SYTYCD 2012 fans…is anyone out there? Comment if you are!!!
It is Day 2 of Vegas Week on So You Think You Can Dance 2012 and it is time for Broadway choreography by Tyce Diorio. Whitney Carson and Lindsay Arnold, both ballroom dancers and friends who have known each other since age 9, are out of their comfort zones in Broadway and they get to show what they got as they are both in the first group. The whole group moves forward on SYTYCD 2012. Broadway seems to be a good thing for the dancers, as line after line seem to be making it to the next round. Alexa Anderson, the last dancer cut before the Top 20 of SYTYCD Season 8, hits the stage for Broadway. Adam Shankman calls her forward and tells her to dance like she wants it and he is sick of saving her. Joseph and Trey are asked to leave, but the remaining dancers survive, including Alexa. Broadway proved to be too much for Teddy Tedholm and 23 other dancers, as they all head home. Teddy claims he won’t be back next year…do you think he will? I think so!
Mid-way through the second day of SYTYCD 2012 Vegas Week and it is time for the Jazz routine for the remaining 82 dancers. It will be choreographed by Sonya Tayeh, who says it will be focused on strength, aggression, texture and musicality. Shafeek Westbrook, the breakdancer from New York, barely skated through to the Jazz routine and now he is struggling with the Jazz number. He is partnered with Danielle Dominguez, the bacon-loving dancer, who is thrilled to be working with Sonya, but Shafeek is bringing her down! Time for the first group, which also features Rachel Applehans, the sexy dancer from Salt Lake City. Shafeek and Rachel are asked to step forward and they are sent home, but the others make it. Rachel tries to fight one more chance and they allow her to dance for her life at the end of the round. Shafeek proceeds to make an ass out of himself and how TV will find him…yeah ok Shafeek, nice knowing you!
The Jazz routine continues on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 and the dancers are not doing so well with this routine. Danielle Dominguez comes back to dance with Giovanni, since there are more girls that have been cut than guys. During their dance, Giovanni proceeds to kick Danielle in the head and she gets checked out by a medic afterwards. Time for Amelia Lowe and Cyrus Spencer to take their stab at Jazz. Cyrus will be partnered with Lindsay Arnold. Lindsay makes it and the judges are split on Amelia, so she will have to dance for her life after this round. Cyrus, however, is through! Tears from him…and me. How about you? After checking out Danielle Dominguez, the medical team has become concerned and they are not taking any chances and she heads off to the hospital!
It is time for Lindsay Arnold and Amelia Lowe to dance for their lives on So You Think You Can Dance 2012. Lindsay is first and she sticks to her style of burlesque, which she proceeds to strip during the dance. The judges say no and she is sent home. Debbie Allen tells her to keep her clothes on next time and focus on dance and not so much the sex…amen, Debbie! Now it is time for Amelia to dance for her life on SYTYCD 2012 and she shines in her contemporary dance. Sonya says during her dance she just wants to get her hands on her! Nigel said no because she needs to embody that spirit into the other dances she is given. The other judges all say yes though and she moves onto the next round!
It is 10:00 p.m. on Day 2 of SYTYCD 2012 Vegas Week and Cat Deeley tells them it is time for the next round, which is the group performances. This year the dancers will be able to choose their own groups of five or six and then they will choose a CD at random to get the song they will dance to and then they have all night to come up with their routine. The first couple hours go well, but as fatigue sets in the dancers start to get angry with each other! Drama, dram, drama!
The morning of Day 3 of Vegas Week has arrived on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 and time to look at the group performances. In the first group are ballet dancer Daniel Baker, Audrey Case and Danielle Dominguez, who was cleared to dance after midnight the night before. She joined the group late and she may have messed up the group dynamic! Who knows what the group dynamic was like before Danielle joined them, but it looked horrendous. Nigel Lythgoe said it was terrible and they should all be sent home. They call Danielle and Charlie forward and they are sent home. The group performances took a big toll on the dancers, as more and more dancers are getting cut.
Aubrey Klinger and her group for SYTYCD 2012 are up next and are not going to let the spirits get them down. Tyce Diorio said this was the best group performance he may have ever seen in Vegas. Nigel Lythgoe said Aubrey is like a mini-Mia Michaels and the whole group is moving on to the next round. That set a positive mood for the stage, as the groups continued to shine. It is now 1:00 p.m. and time for the last group, which features three dancers who have made it to Vegas in past seasons: Dres Reid, Adrian Lee and Alexa Anderson. Debbie Allen said it was lovely and she really enjoyed it. Tyce Diori said that the lights are on, but no one is home for Alexa. Mary Murphy said to take a risk and show us you want to be here. Alexa breaks down in tears and Nigel said that emotion is what we wanted and show us that in your dancing. The whole group is moving on in SYTYCD 2012. Time for some fun in the sun though for the dancers that have made it through so far, as they hit the pool!
We have 61 dancers left on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9, as Jason Gilkison takes the dancers through the Cha Cha! Cyrus Spencer is struggling, but refuses to be intimidated and he is part of the first group to take the stage. He may not be the best, but the boy has some skill and passion. They tell Cyrus he struggled, but they want to see him dance for his life. The others in the group all made it through. The Cha Cha was tough for others, as Amber Williams, country hip-hopper Asher Walker and Dee Tomasetta are all sent home.
Time for Aubrey Klinger to show her stuff in the Cha Cha. She struggled with that one and is asked to step forward and she is sent home. It was tears for Aubrey, as she can’t take the defeat. Things started to look up, as the ballroom dancers took the stage and told them how it was done. Last group of the night and Alexa Anderson has her chance to prove herself and she gave me chills…she worked that crap out! Jason Gilkison said it was one of the best he has seen. Ballroom is done and Cyrus has one more chance to prove he should move on to the next round. He shines in his own genre and has the crowd screaming for him. The judges all say yes and he is moving on to the next round.
It is now 9:00 p.m. on Day 3 of Vegas Week on SYTYCD 2012 and there are 52 dancers left and they are about to take on the last round of choreography, as Travis Wall teaches them the moves for Contemporary. The judges will not make any decisions until the end of the round, as we get a look at the dancers and all the support they have for each other. The performances are over and Nigel Lythgoe calls up a bunch of dancers to the stage, including Lindsay Arnold, Daniel Baker, Cyrus Spencer and 31 others. They all have made it to the next round!
There are still 18 dancers left on SYTYCD 2012 and they are all going to have to do it again one more time, as the judges are still not sure. The last group of the night, including Joshua Alexander and krumper Mariah Spears. Joshua makes it to the next round, but it is the end of the road for Mariah. The night is over and the only their solo performances left.
It is Day 4 on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9 and the dancers prepare for their solo performances. Joshua Alexander, trying to add a new step into his solo, is practicing and does and flip and lands right on his back and head…medics are called and he is wheeled out…will he be ok?
Alexa Anderson is first on stage for the solos on SYTYCD 2012. During her performance, Debbie Allen said this child could win. The dancers then get to tell the judges why they should make it into the Top 20. The rest of the remaining dancers take the stage for their solos and explanations on why they should make it. Do you think Cyrus Spencer will make it? I so think he is going! The last solo goes to Chehon Wespi-Tschopp, who apparently can jump like 20 feet in the air and a standing ovation from the judges to end the round.
Nigel Lythgoe then calls all the guys up to the stage and he has apologies to give for the dancers they are not asking to move forward. In one last cut, Adrian Lee is cut so close again! Now it is time for the girl, as Nigel Lythgoe says none of the girls are cut! So, at the end of Vegas Week on So You Think Can Dance 2012, 35 dancers have survived and the judges pick the Top 20 next week!!! Who makes the cut???
