Roman Polanski Victim Samantha Geimer Wants Charges Dropped

Samantha Geimer, who was 13-years-old when she was sexually assaulted by Roman Polanski, wants the persecution of the Oscar-winning director stopped – so she can go on with her life. Geimer, an aspiring model, was lured to the home of actor Jack Nicholson by Polanski in 1977 and was forced to have sex with the director. Polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor, but fled the U.S. before he could be sentenced for the crime.

Now 45, Samantha Geimer filed a request earlier this year in Los Angeles to have charges dropped against Roman Polanski. She stated that she had gotten over the incident “a long time ago” and “publication of those details causes harm to me, my beloved husband, my three children and my mother.” In an interview with People in 1997, Geimer said Polanski “did something really gross to me, but it was the media that ruined my life.”

Geimer wants the case to be dropped against Roman Polanski so that she can move on with her life without the glare of the media spotlight. Unfortunately for Geimer, it seems likely the final chapter of the Polanski case may be months away. A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office told the press it could be “two or three” months before Polanski can be extradited to the U.S. from Switzerland, where he was arrested. Polanski, through his lawyers, has already stated he plans to fight extradition, which could draw out the process indefinitely.

Polanski was arrested at the Zurich airport on his way to a film festival in the city to receive a lifetime achievement award. A collection of entertainment industry film-makers and Hollywood celebrities have created a petition for Polanski’s release and French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner has reportedly requested a presidential pardon for Polanski from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Ms. Geimer is confused? Pardon? I think you are the confused one, Kevin C. Justice, American Style, eh?

Ms. Geimer is confused. Her continued torment is neither the fault of the media nor the court system. Responsibility for that lies solely on Polanski. Had he showed up for trial 30 years ago, instead of breaking the law a second time, this would have been completely over then.
