Episode 3 of Hell’s Kitchen 2012 begins with Robyn Almodovar angrily accusing Barbie Marshall of sabotaging the team. A mini-fight erupts as Barbie coolly smokes a cigarette and attempts to ignore the hostility. Determined to get even, Barbie wakes up early the next morning and noisily stomps around the kitchen to wake up the rest of the women. Yet another fight erupts – this one much, much more intense. Robyn threatens to snap Barbie’s neck while Tiffany Johnson yells viciously. The men wake up to a storm of yelling, and a production crew member attempts to separate the ladies.
But the craziness is quickly quelled when Chef Gordon Ramsay orders the chefs down to a dining room full of people singing “America the Beautiful.” At the song’s conclusion, Chef Ramsay reveals that these people have just become American citizens, and in honor of their accomplishment, the chefs will be preparing them an all-American meal. For this episode’s Hell’s Kitchen 2012 challenge, the first team to finish serving their half of the dining room will win.
The chefs hurry to prepare their dishes but errors promptly arise. Barbie begins cooking her pizzas too soon, and Royce Wagner mucks up his salads with incorrect ingredients. Clemenza Caserta then prepares raw pizzas despite bragging about being a professional New-York-style pizza maker, and poor Barbie messes up once more and is removed from the pizza station.
Both teams finally get a rhythm going, but the women pull ahead and win the challenge. Their prize will be a safari trip to San Diego via private jet. The men, on the other hand, will be punished a third time by doing hard labor at the Ballona Wetlands.
The ladies board their private G4 and arrive at the safari. After riding in a safari caravan and playing with giraffes, the women sit down with Chef Ramsay for lunch. While eating, the girls vow to complete their dinner service, and Barbie publicly apologizes to the women for waking them up so rudely. Meanwhile in the wetlands, the men slave away cutting trees and fending off hoards of mosquitos.
For the dinner service, Chef Ramsay announces that one member from each team will hold a waiter position – Tiffany for the women, and Don Savage for the men. Patrick Cassata steps up to be the leader of the men’s team, but immediately faces opposition from Royce, who is determined to be defiant. Upon seeing Royce slipping up, Chef Ramsay surprises him by calling his boss –Hell’s Kitchen Season 1 contestant: Ralph Pagano. Ralph gives Royce a quick pep talk and sets him straight, as the guests arrive to the third Hell’s Kitchen Season 10 dinner service.
Royce surprises everyone by preparing a delicious first risotto, but the women struggle as Dana Cohen cooks a disgusting looking pasta appetizer. Out on the dining room floor, Don is having trouble fulfilling his waiter duties because of a hilarious inability to spell. Otherwise, the men are doing very well – their entrees are flying out of the kitchen and the guests are loving what they’re getting.
But success is very short-lived. Clemenza struggles to prepare his meat entrees after cooking a plate of raw lamb chops and failing to properly prepare multiple beef wellingtons.
In the women’s kitchen, Barbie unsuccessfully cooks a plate of scallops, Briana Swanson burns her cod entrees and the women are yelled at by Chef Ramsay. Back in the men’s kitchen, Clemenza’s inability to prepare his meat entrees has resulted in him running out of beef wellington for none other than a table full of U.S. Marines, who just happen to be guests in tonight’s dinner service. Upon delivering the bad news, Chef Ramsay furiously orders that Clemenza personally apologize to the Marines, and offer them strip steak instead. Thankfully for Clemenza, the Marines peacefully accept his offering and declare it delicious.
The men’s performance improves, while the women’s performance worsens. After Briana and Roshni Gurnani fail to cook fish properly for the hundredth time, Chef Ramsay calls the entire team pathetic, and kicks each and every one of them out of the kitchen.
The men proudly complete their dinner service, and Chef Ramsay calls both teams to the kitchens to declare the losing team. Obviously it’s the women, and they must now choose two chefs to nominate for elimination.
Back in front of Chef Ramsay, the women announce that the two worst team members are Barbie and Briana. Chef Ramsay brings the two women to the chopping block, but throws in a wrench when he also calls Roshni down as third worst chef. The three women plead their cases and in the end, Chef Ramsay asks Briana to remove her jacket and go home – telling her that he needs a fighter, and she just isn’t what he’s looking for.
Chef Ramsay gives us a quick preview into the next episode by warning the chefs that their next Hell’s Kitchen 2012 challenge will be extremely difficult and that he expects some unique leaders to emerge. The teams are dismissed, and Briana’s jacket is hung up on the hook as Hell’s Kitchen episode 3 ends.
