Tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries season 5 made emotions reach dangerous levels. We saw the elimination of a character (maybe for good, or maybe he’s walking on over to the spinoff). We also had one terrifying final scene of this episode of The Vampire Diaries season 5. And after tonight’s episode of The Vampire Diaries season 5, I have some major issues with the writers. We need to talk.
WARNING: The Vampire Diaries SPOILERS AHEAD!
This post contains The Vampire Diaries season 5 episode 5 spoilers. Please stop here if you do not want to know what happened!
I am starting this The Vampire Diaries season 5 recap by saying that everything about this episode made me mad. I know a lot of fans prefer Klaus and Caroline. But not everyone does. I am one of those people. However, the back and forth of Tyler leaving and coming back was tiresome. I wanted them to just breakup already on The Vampire Diaries season 5. However, the way the writers did it, it was a further character assassination of Tyler, and the couple’s history. Having Klaus kill Tyler last season would have been a more dignified end to the couple than this final scene.
My second complaint on this episode of The Vampire Diaries season 5 was the Nadia reveal. Maybe I’ve been watching TVD too long, but I saw that twist coming a mile away.
Third complaint: Why has Damon become so desperate to hang on to Elena! I am over the triangle, but I am not a fan of totally assassinating the badness of Damon. The I don’t give a care attitude. The I am who I am, Damon. The my brother is more important to me than anyone, guy. The fact that he chose to harm his brother to save Bonnie really doesn’t sit well with me. This is Damon, the guy who killed half of Bonnie’s loved ones, multiple times! What’s shocking is not the length’s he’ll go to, to save Bonnie, but to make Elena continue to love him. Really? Is this what Damon has become?
My last problem is that the writers almost killed me during the final scene of this episode of The Vampire Diaries season 5. For a second, I believed that they had eliminated one of my favorite characters just for the sake of Silas. I almost screamed.
However, I will give this episode props for adding Shaun Sipos to the cast. He was my favorite thing on the two cancelled CW shows he appeared on. Therefore, I’ll enjoy Aaron until his untimely death. Dr. Wes’s character is also very cool and intriguing. At this point, I kind of hope his evil plans work.
So now to my less emotional The Vampire Diaries season 5 recap:
The End of The Affair
Caroline and Tyler reunite as if he never left. Lots of sex and dressing up like Bonnie and Clyde. However, their reunion doesn’t last. Tyler’s return is just to give a formal goodbye to Caroline. He wants to make it his life mission to find out what can destroy Klaus. (Does that mean that Tyler will now be on the Originals? Or will we never see Tyler again? I think it’s the latter. However I would kind of dig it if Tyler became a new problem for Klaus in New Orleans ). Caroline asks him to stay to be with her. To love her more than he hates Klaus. She even says if he leaves, they’re done. He chooses to leave.
You ARE the Mother
Nadia and Katherine bond. By bond we mean Nadia continues to hold Katherine captive to protect her from Silas. She reveals that Silas plans to drain all the blood to become mortal. Nadia reveals to Katherine that she’s a vampire and wants revenge on Kat. Kat killed her mother back in the day. However it is a lie, sort of, because she later reveals that Katherine is her mother.
Bring Back The Bennett
Damon develops a plan to help get Bonnie back. He’s going to help Silas so he can die and Bonnie can come back. Just this time, he has to keep Stefan dead. That way Silas can gain his powers to use them against Tessa. However, Stefan blows the plan. Then Tessa turns Silas to stone again. At least temporarily.
Earlier, Damon asks Jeremy if Bonnie wants him to go through with the plan. Bonnie says no, but Jer lies to Damon.
The Most Interesting Development on This Episode…
Meanwhile, Dr. Wes continues his experiment on Jesse. At the ball, he shares a dance with Elena and tells her that he knows she’s a vampire, and she should just leave the college. Otherwise, more people might discover this fact.
Earlier, Elena meets a boy named Aaron who knew Megan. At first the guy is cold towards her, but once he’s compelled, he tells her that he has survivors remorse. Everyone around him dies. It’s revealed Dr. Wes is the guardian of Aaron. I’m guessing they may be brothers. I am also guessing that Dr. Wes may be trying to stop vampires from having bloodlust. This will be an interesting development if it’s true.
The episode ends with Damon tricking Katherine to show up at the Salvatore’s mansion. While there, Katherine realizes they’re planning to give her to Silas. So he can feed off her blood. Kat begs for her life, but Damon says goodbye and Silas drains her. Katherine seems dead, but then she comes back.
Silas now prepares to die. But first he must become a witch to switch places with Bonnie.
So did this episode of The Vampire Diaries season 5 infuriate you as much as it did me? Do you want to see Tyler gone forever or on The Originals? Did the last scene make your heart stop? Are you glad Katherine has her daughter back?
