Everyone thought the biggest thing to come out of Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards would be the new Twilight trailer. Instead, the Net is overloaded with massive buzz over the nasty insult given by Kanye West to Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video.

As poor Taylor Swift started to speak after receiving the award for Best Female Video at the VMAs on Sunday, Kayne West rudely jumped on stage and grabbed her mic. Shouting to the audience, Kanye West dissed Swift by yelling out: “Taylor, I’m really happy for you, and I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time.”
Although West later apologized, even penning an all caps apology post on his blog – “I’M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM” – no apology is enough for his shockingly disgusting behavior. Quick a few celebrity responders to West’s outburst seem to agree. Even President Barack Obama couldn’t resist commenting on the debacle.

Well I have to say that I can’t stand Taylor Swift. She can’t sing worth a shit and I’d rather be getting teeth taken out at the dentist’s office than hear her voice. Kanye is clearly a disturbed, angry, pathetic, racist, LITTLE egomaniac surrounded by too many people who support and even encourage his foolishness (probably because they have much to gain by doing so). I don’t know if I would do much better given all that power, with so few honest voices of reason around me. I don’t know that it wouldn’t go to my head. That does not excuse his behavior, but let’s not be too quick to judge until we have tried to walk in his very public shoes. She could have siezed the opportunity to “agree” with Kanye that Beyonce is a fabulously talented artist that certainly could have won the award. Then she could have humbly expressed her surprise and delight at being honored with such an award when just being mentioned in the same sentence with the other Nominees was more than she expected. She could have even helped to save Kanye’s reputation and even softened his obvious race related anger in the process. But we seldom are able to think clearly in such situations. I also feel bad for Beyonce who didn’t ask for such a well meaning but foolish show of support and praise. Times like these show that we still have a lot of work to do in this country as it pertains to healing racial tension (to put it mildly). Just electing a black President cannot erase the pain that African Americans have endured…and continue to endure in this country. I think THAT is at the core of what Kanye did AND the reactions to what he did. The comments I read on this website reveal a great deal of racial hatred still alive and well (white toward black AND black toward white). Just one man’s observations. We are making progress…I just wish it would hurry up.

That was simply ridiculous. How can he do something like that? I don’t really care for Taylor Swift or country music. She’s OK., but no one has the right to do what Kanye did. Besides, is it just me, or does anyone else thinks that Beyonce’s songs sound like something my 5 year old daughter would come up with (melody wise)? She DOES have a beautiful voice, but most of the time it seems like she is making the melody as she goes. I really have tried to like her, I even have one of her CDs, but I just can’t stand it. If it were anyone else singing her songs I would swear they were just singing out of tune. That’s what MOST of her songs sound like to me.

I don’t even watch the VMAs. I barely know who is singing the song I am listening to at any given moment. But what I do know is that what Kanye did was wrong. Yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But opinions are like assholes, everybody’s got one. For those that are saying he deserved to voice his opinion….he could have chosen another way instead of taking away a talented young performer’s moment of glory. And his appology was pathetic.
