Simon Cowell is playing it cool about Britney Spears “X-Factor” judge rumors going around. In a conference call on Wednesday, Cowell refused to give away any secrets about who might be replacing ousted “X-Factor” judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.
Gossip about who will sign on as the new “X-Factor” judges for season two in the U.S. have been flying hot and heavy. Janet Jackson has already been hinted at by multiple sources as a possible new “X-Factor” judge. There is also a rumor that Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas could be under consideration. Now a source close to Britney Spears allegedly told Us Weekly she is interested in joining the show as a judge.
“Are we flattered that there could be interest? Yes,” Simon Cowell said in a press conference call Wednesday. However, Cowell refused to discuss the rumor further or talk about any other possible replacements. “I’ve learned a big lesson: keep your mouth shut,” Cowell said. “Don’t give it all away.”
“There is a load of speculation,” added Cowell. “Some true and some not true. It’s true to say there are a lot more people who have entered the frame this year and we really waited to see who was going to contact us before we actually contacted people.”
We are in that place right now, which is a good place to be. We will meet a number of people over the next few weeks,” Cowell said.
Judge L.A. Reid also refused to specifically address the Britney Spears “X-Factor” rumor. “The only thing you can count on,” Reid said, “is that we will likely have two girls.”
