Country Singer Chely Wright Weds Girlfriend Lauren Blitzer
The lavish circus of the Kim Kardashian wedding wasn’t the only celebrity marriage ceremony held this weekend. Country singer Chely Wright also got married on Saturday to longtime girlfriend Lauren Blitzer.
Chely Wright and Lauren Blitzer were married on Saturday at a country estate in Connecticut belonging to Blitzer’s aunt in a much smaller ceremony than Kim Kardashian’s enormous Hollywood affair. Same sex marriage has been legal in Connecticut since 2008.
About 200 guests were in attendence and both ladies wore white gowns from designer Jose Dias. Neither wore veils because, as Wright told People jokingly, “we like our hair too much.” Blitzer posted a photo of the two lovely brides on her Twitter feed.
The “Single White Female” singer came out publicly as a lesbian in May of 2010. Her public admission she was gay resulted in death threats and Wright admitted she had suicidal thoughts while going through the coming out process.
Wright, 40, and Blitzer, 30, became engaged in April. Wright met Blitzter, a GLBT activist, just two weeks after coming out. The wedding ceremony was held by both a rabbi and a minister to cover both women’s religious beliefs.
