The Biggest Loser 2013 Season 14 is addressing the issue of childhood obesity by adding in child contestants for the first time on the show. One of the contestants is Sunny Chandrasekar and she was able to work with Jillian Michaels as her The Biggest Loser trainer. Sunny is 16 years old, but seemed way more mature for her age and seemed like an intelligent girl. She had a good head on her shoulders and seemed to be learning a lot during her time on The Biggest Loser Season 14. I talked with Sunny today about her time on The Biggest Loser 2013 and how her family is dealing with it all.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: What made you sign up for The Biggest Loser Season 14?
A. Sunny: Being overweight is something I have dealt with my entire life since I was young. I’ve pretty much tried everything. I tried diets. I tried working out a lot and it never really worked for me and I’ve watched The Biggest Loser in the past and was a big fan of how the show transformed so many people’s lives and I decided I wanted to let them know who I am and it kind of just blossomed and here I am on the show.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: What were you thinking when they did choose you for this childhood obesity campaign this season?
A. Sunny: When they told me I was going to be on the show, I was with Lindsay at that point and we just went absolutely crazy. We were jumping and screaming and hugs and crying. It was a great moment.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: During the season, Jillian sent you to some Bollywood dance classes. Are you continuing those or what tips are you using that she did provide for you?
A. Sunny: Yeah, by taking those classes it represented me trying something I never would have tried in the past. I definitely do plan on continuing Bollywood dance classes. I also play tennis for my school. I feel like my fitness has improved and that is really going to help me with my game play. I also hope that will continue to grow in my life.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: How has your family and friends been for you through this journey?
A. Sunny: This journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve been so fortunate to have such an amazing support system here at home. I have the best friends in the world. I have the best family in the world. Everyone has come together. The cool thing about it is that everyone around me has been making healthy changes. I go to Zumba classes with my friends or I cook a really healthy dinner with my mom. It’s really awesome.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: What was it like working with Jillian as your trainer?
A. Sunny: It was great. Jillian is so much fun to be around and so wise in her field. It was so amazing that she came out to Rochester and visited me and helped me to kick start this complete 360 turn in my life. I’m really grateful she has been my trainer on the show and she was supporting me.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: What was it like working with the adult contestants on some of the challenges and cheering them on?
A. Sunny: We did come out to the ranch. It’s great because sometimes it’s hard to be at home and have to lose weight on my own. To be able to go to the ranch it helps me to keep motivated. I can see all the changes that the other contestants on the ranch are making. It’s just great. It gives me a new burst of energy to go home and continue.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: What was the best part of the experience of being on The Biggest Loser 2013?
A. Sunny: I really feel like the best part is gaining confidence and gaining self-esteem. It’s so nice to just know who I am and understand that I’m not perfect. I don’t have to meet up with everyone’s expectations and I am still an amazing person. It helps me to go into situations and not feel stressed out and feel really self-assured and that’s what I really like about it.
Q. Todd, Gossip & Gab: Anything to add?
A. Sunny: I wanted other teenage girls out there to know that if I can do it, they can do it too. It just takes little steps to change your lives.
