Fox Chooses So You Think You Can Dance Over Obama Speech

The Fox Network has announced it will not preempt the network’s hit show So You Think You Can Dance and new series Glee with President Barack Obama‘s speech to congress on Wednesday. President Barack Obama will address his remarks to a rare joint session of Congress in an effort to garner more support for his controversial healthcare reform care plan.

“The Fox Broadcasting Company will not air the Presidential Address to Congress on Wednesday, September 9 at 8:00 PM (ET),” the network announced on Friday.
“FOX’s sister networks, Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network will air the presidential address in its entirety. FOX will alert viewers with an on-screen graphic at the top of the 8:00 PM (ET) hour that the presidential address is available on Fox News Channel and the Fox Business Network.”

ABC, CBS and NBC have all agreed to air President Obama’s speech during primetime hours.

Fox’s refusal to air Obama’s speech marks the third time the network has failed to carry a primetime event featuring the President. In July, Fox chose to air an episode of So You Think You Can Dance rather than carry a news conference by President Obama on health care. Fox also refused to air Obama’s 100th day in office news conference rather than an American Idol results show.
