During Wednesday night’s episode of ‘MasterChef’ we find the contestants waiting in the MasterChef kitchen with another mystery box in front of them. When they lift their boxes, they find what Aaron Shanchez describes as some of the best shellfish in the world. Jason seems the most excited as he dances for joy after seeing their surprise. They are given 60 minutes to create an incredible meal out of the ingredients they are given.
The first to get called up is Jeff, who cooked up sautéed Mussels with chorizo, prawn and garlic, giving the dish a Spanish flare. Chef Ramsay praises him for what he did with the ingredients and says there’s no stopping him.
Necco is the second contestant to join the top 3 with Uni Tagliatelle with toasted spot prawns and southern mussels casino. Christina called his preparation smart and is excited to see what else he has to offer. Chef Aaron tells the other contestants that they should be taking notes.
The third and final contestant to be called up is Jason, who prepared Tempura spot prawns with uni-yuzu mayonnaise and clams in shellfish broth. Chef Ramsay describes his dish as a work of art and tells him he wouldn’t chance a thing. Christina mentions that the tempura reminds her of Japan. Jason was named as the top dish and will be safe from elimination.
For the elimination challenge, they will have to make a Chef Gordon classic, scrambled eggs with roasted vine-tomatoes and grilled mushrooms. Although it seems like an easy enough dish, he explains to them that he is looking for MasterChef worthy perfection, which requires technical discipline and precise timing.
They have fifteen minutes to cook the perfect scrambled eggs. The six that did not get sent upstairs are Jeff, Sam, Heather, Yachecia, Dino and Caitlin. The other contestants are safe from elimination.
Christina tells the 6 chefs that in order to become a good chef, you need to listen to criticism and learn from your mistakes. They are given one more chance to make the dish again, only this time they have 10 minutes to finish.
Sam still undercooked his eggs as he admitted to having timing issues. Ramsay says it looks like a grilled cheese and asked if he needed a straw to eat it. Heather had a problem with under-seasoned eggs the first time around, now her eggs have too much pepper. After taking a bite, Christina couldn’t stop coughing. The other four cooks improved the second time around and were told to head upstairs.
In the end, Heather was told to leave her apron.1 of 1
