The hit dance competition show ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ continued the audition portion of the show in New York last night. Host Cat Deeley introduced a number of performers who danced their heart out in an effort to make it to the next round. Unfortunately, judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Vanessa Hudgens have a limited amount of spots available, making each round of auditions more difficult to judge.
Here is a recap of last night’s show and how the dancers fared. Don’t be afraid to share your thoughts of the performances in the comment section as well.
Kaylee “Impavido” Millis – Using Impavido as a nickname, which is Italian for “to fear less,” she lives up to it as her confidence is evident in her performance. She started the New York auditions with a contemporary routine that received a standing ovation from the judges. Vanessa comments on the beauty of her movements while Mary is impressed with her confidence. She gets sent to the Acadamy.
Ana Sanchez – Ana performed a Colombian salsa number that had Mary screaming and applauding. She is complimented on her stamina and Vanessa says she could tell Ana was having fun while dancing. Nigel also complimented her moves and sent her to the next round.
Koine Iwasaki – Koine admitted that she was uncomfortable with her cultural roots as a child and used dance as a second language. The emotion in her performance got a standing ovation from the judges. Nigel noted her power and strength while Mary said she love every layer of her performance. We will see her at the Academy.
Joseph “Klassic” Carella and Huwer “Havoc” Marche Jr. – This hip-hop duo prides themselves on moving and flexing their body in new and amazing ways. They used these movements to connect to the music and give a personal performance. Nigel even called Havoc a dancing genius. Sending them to the next round was easily a unanimous decision.
Chaz Wolcott – Although not many tap dancers make the final cut, Wolcott had enough energy and skill to impress the judges. Mary admitted that no tap dancer has ever brought a tear to her eye, but he easily accomplished that. After receiving a standing ovation, it was no surprise that he got sent to the academy.
Ryan Bailey – the final performance of the night was different to say the least. An unconventional contemporary performance which featured some shaking was at first confusing to watch. But as the performance went on, his technical skill was on full display as he showed off some difficult moves. Although the judges were not sure what to think of the performance, they could see that he has what it takes to make in this competition. We will be seeing more of him in the next round.1 of 1
