On tonight’s episode of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ we will see the auditioning move to New York, where we will meet 19-year-old dancer Kaylee Millis.
The young performer fell in love with dancing at 8 years old, when she attended a dance class at Pembroke School of Performing Arts. Millis told her local newspaper that, “I’ve been watching the show since I was a little kid. I’ve seen such amazing dancers come out of the show. I always thought, ‘I’m going to do that someday.’”
The Kingston native has focused on jazz and ballet, but has also experimented with hip-hop and contemporary as well. “When you see me dance, I basically go from really big movements to all of a sudden very small, intricate, almost conversational movements and that’s what really shapes my dancing to become my own,” she said.
Although she felt different from her peers growing up, she used dance as a way to express herself. “A big thing that I stand for is being able to relate to as many different people as possible regardless of sexuality, race, how you dress, whatever, where you live. I’m really into speaking to the underdog, making sure that people understand that if you love something enough and are willing to put everything into it that the outcome sooner or later will be successful,” she concluded.
She will get to audition in front of Judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Vanessa Hudgens on Monday, June 26. Tune in tonight to see if she makes it to the next round.
