Apparently 11 white aprons were handed out last week, so they did not show them properly. Or I missed something with the quicklook battles. Now to the new battles and nine white aprons remain!
This is a battle of veal parmigiana! Josh is a political consultant from Ohio, but cooking is his passion. He is self-taught and likes rubs and sauces. Dino is a ballet dancer. He is also Vegan, but said he will dance circles around this guy. Dino is making a sauce for the vegetables and a sauce for the noodles, so overdoing it? Josh seems to be keeping it simple.
TASTING – For Josh, Aaron said a ton of mozzarella. The cook is spectacular. The seasoning in the veal is just as it should be. For him, it is remarkable. Gordon said the veal is cooked beautifully. He would not have bothered with the polenta. For Dino, Christina said she was worried about the two sauces, but it brings in two different sides to it. Gordon said the veal is cooked beautifully and the sauce is delicious. It got clumsy with all the layers.
Only one apron can be handed out and the winner of this battle is Dino, as Josh is headed home on MasterChef 2017.
This is a battle for redemption, as they were both here last season and did not get a white apron then! Taylor is a digital marketer from Texas. Last time she was here, she made cupcakes. Cate is a total tomboy and will go out and kill her meat and then cook it! For this challenge, they will be cooking salmon. They will have to fillet it and then cook a perfect dish on MasterChef Season 8.
TASTING – For Taylor, Gordon said she filleted it beautiful. The rice was bland and whole presentation could have gone further. Aaron said it is remarkable how much flavor she got in the salsa. The asparagus is boring, but dynamite salsa. For Cate, Gordon said the skin is crispy and delicious. The vegetables are a little over-generous, but she has a strong work ethic in there. Christina said she did a beautiful job butchering and cooking her salmon. The dish is large and a lot of flavors competing with the star of the dish.
The judges on MasterChef 2017 discussed the two home cooks and it is a unanimous decision. Cate wins that white apron, so Taylor is eliminated again!
This is a four-home cook battle! Michael is a former COO of a private equity firm. Brien admits he is cocky. The ladies will want to sleep with him and the guys will want to be him. Daniel is a substitute teacher from Boston. He said his Boston attitude will get him that apron. Aakash grew up in India and he thinks those culture flavors will make him stand out. After a demo from Chef Ramsay, they have 30 minutes to make the perfect steak and sauce on MasterChef 2017!
TASTING – For Michael, Gordon said the steak is beautiful. He is confused on the sauce and puree being combined. For Daniel, Aaron said the cook of the filet is spot-on. The garnish makes sense to him. For Brien, Christina said she wouldn’t even know there was a sauce on it. The vegetables and steak are delicious. For Aakash, Gordon said he has a great sear on that ribeye. Steak is beautiful and sauce is great. He made the potatoes in the blender and Gordon calls him out on it!
The two aprons go to Daniel and Brien! That means Michael and Aakash have been eliminated tonight on MasterChef Season 8.
We get some quicklooks at some of the other battles. This leads us to the final battle of the season!
Newton is a native-born Texan. He is a meat and potatoes guy and wants to cook a steak tonight! Tom is from Hawaii and he said he is ready to cook, as that is where he is comfortable. He said if it doesn’t have meat, it is not a dish. They are both those manly men and want to cook meat. Well, Christina surprises them and for this battle, they will have to cook the perfect cupcake!
TASTING – For Newton, Christina said she is totally shocked. It is definitely not dry and delicious. The spice in the frosting is smart. Gordon said that is f***ing delicious. If that is what you can do with a cupcake, who the f*** knows what you can do with a steak! For Tom, Christina said it tastes a little like an ice cream sundae. The cupcake is a little over-baked, but the cream center helps out. Aaron said he did not see the need for the cream. The garnish is the star.
Christina said this is the closest battle they have had all season. The apron goes to Newton, which seemed obvious with their critiques! Tom is eliminated.
