When the (fantastic) saying, “the future is female” first came about, nobody had American Gods 1×04 spoilers in mind. But if you take the phrase in its most literal sense — as opposed to in its proper context — it totally fits. When we last left Shadow Moon, he was on the receiving end of a surprise visit from his dead wife. Insert constant, epic Ricky Whittle “wtf” face here.
Or, you could always just watch the next all-new episode of American Gods. No, really. Do it. It’s time to meet Emily Browning’s Laura Moon. Just like everyone from Mad Sweeney to Mr. Wednesday, Mr. Nancy to Media, and all those Zoryas, Laura’s another character viewers should get ready to love.
American Gods 1×04 synopsis via Starz:
Alternating between the past and the present, Laura’s life and death are explored—how she met Shadow, how she died, and how exactly she came to be sitting on the edge of his motel room bed.
We promised you American Gods 1×04 spoilers, so we’re giving you…whatever this is!
- Given the cause of Laura Moon’s death and Shadow’s graveside reaction in the series premiere, you might think Laura would be characterized in a certain way. Luckily, you’d think wrong. Quite often, expecting the menfolk to properly develop and respect female characters is a sure setup for disappointment. The American Gods writers, however, actually seem to realize that (gasp!) women are human. We’re not just saints or whores. And we can be just as interesting and complicated as our male counterparts. Shocking, I know.
- What I’m saying here is Laura Moon is a beautiful mess, and I can’t wait for everyone to meet her.
- In just under an hour, the character of “the dead wife” will become her own person. Not only will a lot of viewers fall in love with Laura, but I believe Emily Browning is about to earn herself quite the following, too.
- Forget whatever you thought “strong female character” meant before now. Much like Shadow is being introduced to brand new possibilities, American Gods viewers are about to have their view of what female strength means ripped wide open.
Vague? Yes. Totally truthful? Always. That’s it for our American Gods 1×04 spoilers.
Make sure to watch the episode on Starz this Sunday. After the show, make sure to come back here for what promises to be a glowing review.1 of 1
