We’ve reached the semifinals of Dancing with the Stars 2017, and as always we’re here to bring you the live recap! Tonight, the remaining four DWTS Season 24 couples (Normani Kordei & Val Chmerkovskiy, Simone Biles & Sasha Farber, Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater and David Ross & Lindsay Arnold) will compete to earn a spot in the finale. They’ll each perform in two rounds of competition, including the judges’ choice round, in which each couple will work with one of the DWTS 2017 judges (Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Julianne Hough). Last week, the couples competed in two rounds of performances, including the trio round. Normani & Val earned a perfect score with their moving contemporary performance. By the end of the night, the bottom two couples were Rashad & Emma and Bonner Bolton & Sharna Burgess, and Bonner & Sharna were eliminated. As mentioned, we’ve got two rounds tonight. First up is the judges’ challenge round. Here we go!
Normani Kordei & Val Chmerkovskiy – LEN GOODMAN – Viennese Waltz to “Desperado” by Rihanna
Judges: Len said it was lovely sweeping movement. She did exactly what he asked for. Well done. Julianne said the concept was beautiful. They dance as one. She’s so fierce and together they have a magical team. She saw the little stumble and they have to nitpick because it’s the semifinals. Bruno said she managed to turn the old dance around and still make it so strong and beautiful to look at. Carrie Ann said once she starts the dance there is no stop of movement and that makes her mouth water. She loves watching her dance.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, Julianne – 9, Bruno – 9 = 36/40
David Ross & Lindsay Arnold – JULIANNE HOUGH – Foxtrot to “You Make Me Feel So Young” by Michael Bublé
Judges: Julianne said she’s so proud of them. She had so much fun coming in and working with them. They work hard, they have fun, they’re grateful and put everything out there on the dance floor. Everyone is rooting for them. Bruno said he’s a joy to watch. He continues to entertain them. He could watch him every day. Carrie Ann said doesn’t it feel good to give the judges what they want? He broke through last week and he’s maintaining. He improves every single time and he brings it to the dance floor. Len said he’s the boy that brings joy. Every time he dances there’s a feel good factor about it.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 8, Julianne – 9, Bruno – 8 = 34/40
We take a break to hear Calum Scott sing his hit single, “Dancing on my Own,” while pros Witney Carson and Artem Chigvintsev dance.
Simone Biles & Sasha Farber – CARRIE ANN INABA – Jive to “Faith” by Stevie Wonder featuring Ariana Grande
Judges: Bruno said little miss perfect is letting loose. He’s loving the reckless, sassy attitude. She nailed it. Carrie Ann said it warms her heart to see her tapping into that multi-dimension and emotion. Len said it was sharp. Her footwork was precise. Her personality came out. Fantastic dancing. Julianne said she’s on board with all of them. She wants to know what name she’d come up with for that character and Simone says Zoey. The next dance is Sophia.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Julianne – 10, Bruno – 10 = 40/40!!! (Yay!!! It’s their first perfect score of the season!)
Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater – BRUNO TONIOLI – Rumba to “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur
Judges: Carrie Ann said it felt a little more elegant and he extended a little longer. It looked like he was painting a canvas with his body. It became passionate and artistic. Len said he liked the shade about it, hard, soft, big, small. He had beautiful fluidity through his arms. He’s shown him that he has tremendous dance talent. Julianne said the subtleties were all improved from last week. Well done. He is a dancer. Bruno said it exceeded all expectations. He never ceases to surprise him. He’s like a lion dominating everything he does. He’s got it all.

DWTS pro Cheryl Burke is here tonight to perform a dance as a sneak preview of her live tour. Now, it’s time for round two.
Normani Kordei & Val Chmerkovskiy – Jazz to “What a Wonderful World” by Ray Chew Live
Judges: Len said it was a lot of fun. He gives them a standing ovation. Julianne said she’s an absolute star. She is so humble because she is so beautiful and humility stands for a lifetime. That dance was outstanding. Bruno said it was hot, vibrant, exciting, colorful. That was so right. She’s a diva and a star. Carrie Ann said the way she polishes that choreography into a diamond if insane. It’s effortless and she feels the power in everything she does.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Julianne – 10, Bruno – 10 = 40/40!!! (Fantastic! Well deserved!)
David Ross & Lindsay Arnold – Tango to “Castle on the Hill” by Ed Sheeran
Judges: Julianne said she’s over calling him the fan favorite because he’s so meant to be he here. He’s such a great dancer. He has the charm and the heart. Thank you for all of your hard work. Bruno said in this one he went for it like a torpedo in a tuxedo, driven and determined. Carrie Ann said this was his best dance yet. He’s the amazing base of this team. Len said there have been better dances on DWTS, but no one has tried harder, worked harder and given him more enjoyment than him.

Simone Biles & Sasha Farber – Rumba to “Skyscraper” by Demi Lovato
Judges: Bruno said she let the dance flow out of her, effortlessly. It was beautiful, real, gorgeous. Carrie Ann said she danced with her soul tonight. She is after that Mirrorball. Len said with this show it’s not where you started it’s where you finish. There was nothing he didn’t like. Julianne said this balance beam was the perfect metaphor for this dance and her journey. She showed this vulnerability in her performance and she executed it great.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 10, Julianne – 10, Bruno – 10 = 40/40!!! (Nice! Again, well deserved!)
Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater – Quickstep to “Yes I Can” by Superhumans
Judges: Carrie Ann said quickstep and Rashad are a match made in heaven. Len said it was too much positivity. Julianne said he was light on his feet. It was all about the quickstep. She thought it was brilliant. Bruno said he is on a roll. The charisma is out of this world. Sprint on the movement and spring on the feet. He’s the leading man.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9, Julianne – 10, Bruno – 10 = 39/40 (Nice!)
It’s time to find out who will be competing in the finals. The first couple who will be dancing in the finals next week is…Normani & Val!
The next couple who is going to the finals is…Rashad & Emma!
It’s down to David & Lindsay and Simone & Sasha. The couple leaving tonight is…Simone & Sasha. Aww. Sad. to see them go. They killed it tonight. I am happy for David & Lindsay, though. They really are the fan favorite.
Simone said she learned a lot about herself. She’s matured. She’ll be back next week for the finale.
