The weekend is almost here (thank the gods), so it’s time for some American Gods 1×03 spoilers. When we last saw Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), he’d just lost a very important game of checkers. As in, technically, he has an upcoming date with Czernobog’s hammer — and his brain matter has an upcoming date with becoming crime scene splatter. If your greatest tv wish is to get to see more of Ricky Whittle, though, fear not: Starz’s American Gods 1×03 spoilers guarantee at least one more week of your viewing bliss. Check out the episode trailer below if you’re worried enough to be in need of proof:
Now, for the juicier American Gods 1×03 spoilers — or just one of them, really. But it’s big. The episode grants a major tv wish.
Many television viewers have just one simple wish: representation. That’s it. We all want to watch what we love and find characters that remind us of, well, us. Television has plenty of generic, white heterosexual characters. But what about everyone else? As it relates to the issue of diversity, American Gods has already proven itself to be masterful at voices to those who, as a general rule, are voiceless on television.
…but it’s about to get even better.
Mark my words: American Gods 1×03 takes the series’ already obvious commitment to diversity to a whole new level. It’s time to introduce Salim (Omid Abtahi) and The Jinn (Mousa Kraish), and it’s time to see what was once potentially viewed as “just another minor part” of Neil Gaiman’s novel become something much, much more. You might even call Salim and The Jinn’s story “undeniably beautiful,” as executive producer Bryan Fuller recently said he’d wanted to make sure it would be.

Watching “Head Full of Snow,” I remember thinking, “wow. It’s really that simple to do this well, yet hardly anyone ever bothers? Wtf, Hollywood.”
Interestingly enough, for as unique and/or foreign as certain aspects of Salim’s story may seem to some, his experience as an immigrant probably isn’t far off from most first generation Americans’ experience. But we’ll have to save the full story on that for the post-episode review.
That’s it for our American Gods 1×03 spoilers. Make sure to watch “Head Full of Snow” Sunday, May 14 at 9/8c on Starz.
