Elizabeth Keen becomes the target of a mercenary known as the Debt Collector in The Blacklist season 4 episode 20. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episodes 19.
The Blacklist season 4 episode 20 opens on a flashback to 2002. A guy sits in a car by a bonfire party, but then Edgar Grant, the Debt Collector, appears in his car. The Debt Collector takes him to a remote location and explains that he’s been hired to get revenge on him for selling drugs to a girl that caused her to drown while high. He then lights the guy on fire.
In the present, Raymond Reddington visits a man named Baldur Magnusson. He tells him that he needs transport back to the United States.
Red calls Mr. Kaplan. He tells her that he needs a favor. He says that it’s for Liz and asks her to look at a body.
Mr. Kaplan contacts the task force and offers her assistance. They tell her about a body from 2002 that they believe was killed by the same person who’s after Liz.
Liz packs up her stuff to go to a safe house. But, as she’s getting ready to leave, sneaks up behind her.
Harold Cooper calls Red to tell him that the Debt Collector got to Liz before she could get to the safe house. Red tells him, “Find your suspect and do it fast before he collects on whatever debt Liz supposedly owes.”
Red and Dembe talk about Mr. Kaplan. Dembe tells Red that he leaves Mr. Kaplan, but it’s time to stop her.
Donald Ressler and Agent Gale question Marvin Gerard. But, Gerard refuses to talk as part of a deal with Ressler to keep the task force secret.
After the Debt Collector brings Liz to a remote location, Red shows up. He reveals that he’s the one who hired the Debt Collector.
Aram Mojtabai tells Cooper he thinks he may know where Liz is. He tracked Mr. Kaplan’s location and linked it to a troop that used a cabin on a lake.
Mr. Kaplan arrives at the cabin, thinking she’s going to save Liz from the Debt Collector. Instead she realizes it’s a trap orchestrated by Red.
Mr. Kaplan tells Red that she proved his point by kidnapping Liz. He tells him, “I watched you hold Elizabeth emotionally hostage. I never thought you would hold her physically hostage as well.” They have a stand off until a mysterious sniper shoots at Red.
At the end of the episode, Liz and Red ask who the shooter could be. Liz says that no one knew he was at that cabin. He says that’s what makes their “mystery guest” so intriguing.
