Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD 2017 started off with Lindsay getting a surprise visit from Bunny and she gives her a pearl bracelet. Lindsay gets to work and talks to Halstead about it which turns into her telling him that she doesn’t need him to tell her what to do when it comes to her mother. Voight hears some of this conversation and reassigns them to new partners. Halstead is riding with Olinsky and Lindsay with Upton, who took Voight up on his job offer.
We then watch as Ruzek takes a call about a live video feed on social media. It’s a video of a guy being tortured and then lit on fire and by the time the team gets the address and arrives, the man is dead. They can’t get an ID on the victim, his fingerprints were burned off and his wallet was torched. The team also couldn’t get a hit on facial recognition. They did find a key to a car and found the car nearby. They get a hit off the registration.
Olinsky and Halstead head over to the address on the registration. The woman the car belonged to was the aunt of the victim. The victim’s name was Elijah, he was a registered sex offender because when he was 18, he dated a 16 year old. Her family later pressed charges. He was from Indiana and that’s where this happened. The team thinks that this was racially motivated. That the parents pressed charges because their daughter was white and he was black. Apparently it’s frowned upon where he is from.
Lindsay and Upton go to Indiana to talk to local authorities about the case against Elijah. They get the name and address of Elijah’s ex-girlfriend, Beth. When they get to her house they are told that her new boyfriend was pissed Elijah reached out to her on Facebook. They go to pay Beth’s boyfriend, Jake, a visit and they find out that he contacted a group on Facebook. They might have had something to do with Elijah’s death. The group refers to themselves as the Perv Hunters.
Halstead and Olinsky go to visit one of the pedophiles on the Perv Hunter’s videos, Alan Metcalf. He tells them about the guy who ambushed him and has a license plate number. They run the plates and find a guy named Craig who is head of the Chicago division of Perv Hunters and owns a tattoo parlor. He is not only a Perv Hunter, but he is a racist and has some rude words for Atwater and Ruzek isn’t taking that.
They bring Craig in for questioning, but while they are talking to him another video feed is published. Alan Metcalf is set on fire in this live feed. With Craig in custody, I think it’s safe to say it wasn’t him. Voight knows that it wasn’t him, but he tells Craig that he can be charged as an accessory because of the video he posted. He tells Craig that he will knock it down if he helps Voight find the guy targeting the guys he is ambushing.
They make a fake ambush video featuring Olinsky and wait until the suspect strikes. While watching the building Olinsky is set up in, they get a guy in a pickup truck. The truck looks like a work truck and he is carrying a tool bag. He looks really sketchy, but doesn’t have a chance to go in before CPD has to pick him up. He has plastic cuffs and a stun gun like the ones used on Alan and Elijah.
They bring him in and question him, but he denies knowing anything about the crimes. When they run his name through the system, they find that he doesn’t have a record. However, he was a person of interest in a kidnap and murder of a young boy. Lindsay calls in her therapist to help the team on this one. She is struggling with this case because of a girl she was friends with when she was seven who vanished one day. She said that if this guy is who they think he is, this case is pretty personal for her.
After the doctor and Lindsay talk to him, the doctor has come down to the conclusion that he is a self loathing pedophile. He is killing pedophiles because he hates the person he is. She also thinks that he may have kidnapped and raped a young boy recently that that triggered his attacks. The team go to the suspect’s house and find a book bag and little boys underwear in his room.
Lindsay goes back to the precinct and asks him where the child is? He claims there is no child and that the underwear and book bag are only a fetish. They get a hit on a burner phone and go to the store where he bought it. The guy that sold it to him said that he came into the store alone, but left his sleeping son in the truck outside.
Lindsay and Upton head back to the precinct and look through video footage from the store next door. They do find a young boy sitting in the front seat of the truck and run his description through missing persons. They get a hit on a tender aged boy and go to pay the mother a visit. Voight shows the mother a picture of their suspect, Pettigrew, and she tells him that she saw him in the neighborhood looking for work last week.
We end the episode off with Lindsay threatening Pettigrew with her gun and Upton going in after her to try and stop her. After roughing Pettigrew up a little, they are able to get an address on where the kid is. Unfortunately, Lindsay and Upton are in some serious trouble because the chief just walked in. The rest of the team go to get the kid, he was left in a car and by the time they get there, the kid is dead. According to the ME, the boy was dead for two hours.
Lindsay is called into Voight’s office. He tells her that the chief wants her in front of the board at 9am. He reminds her that he is with her until the wheels come off. We see as she walks into the hearing with the board. We will have to wait until next week to see what happens!
