Also on Chicago PD 2017, Lindsay manages to unmask a surprising suspect! If you missed last week’s episode of Chicago PD season 4, you can find my Chicago PD recap right here! Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD season 4 started off with Lindsay and Halstead having lunch together when they get a call about a bank robbery. They find one wounded and the security guard dead and when they start working the case, Det. Upton from robbery homicide shows up. She is trying to take over their crime scene even though they were the first to respond.
Later, while the team is working the case, Upton shows up to fill them in on some details. They are using cell jammers, they are only targeting credit unions because they have less security and more cash on hand. Captain comes in with her and calls Upton and Voight into Voight’s office. After a brief conversation, the Captain ends up giving the case to Voight and tells Upton to bring them her files.
Olinsky follows the trail of the cell jammer to a pawn shop, the shop owner gave him the name of the guy who bought it. His name is Thaddeus and when they get to a club he frequents, they find him and a lot of money. When they look up the money serial numbers, they find that none of the bills match the credit unions bills. They do however match bills from a home invasion.
Halstead and Lindsay are looking for surveillance footage at one of the banks. While looking through it with the guard, the suspects come in and rob the place. They are able to arrest one and injure another. When the one who is injured tries to run, they are cornered and they point their gun at Lindsay. Lindsay shoots and kills the suspect and pulls his helmet off. He’s a teenager. The other one won’t talk, but he is also just a teenager.
Atwater and Voight are both trying to talk to this kid, but he isn’t saying a word. They go as far as showing him a picture of his friend. He refuses to say anything until he gets a public defender and a juvenile advocate. The suspect that Lindsay had to shoot, his name is Curtis and he was going to turn 15 in just a few days.
The mother walks in to ID her son and after she does Halstead asks her if he can ask her a few questions, but she had one of her own. Which one of them killed her son? Lindsay apologizes and explains that he was armed, but she flips and Halstead has to pull her out of the room.
Voight calls Upton back in, she stops at Platt’s desk and she seems to know her from somewhere. When Upton gets to Voight’s office, they are talking about a man named Span. He is a former bank robber who has done time in federal lockup. During his last heist he got shot in the back by an FBI agent and was left partially paralyzed. Upton thinks that because he can’t rob banks himself anymore that he is recruiting kids to do it for him.
They head to Span’s garage where he has a bunch of neighborhood kids working for him. They talk to him and Voight tells him if he finds anything that points to him having anything to do with the robberies and Span stops him. Asks him if he is going to beat a cripple.
When Voight goes back to his office, he has the state’s attorney standing there who refuses to give him the warrant he needs for Span’s place. Tells Voight that he has no probable cause to point him to these robberies. So Halstead, Olinsky and Upton go to try and get some. They are able to get a picture of another kid on a similar dirt bike as the ones that the other kids used in the robberies to get away.
Meanwhile, Atwater has the other kid, Corey, talking a little, but his lawyer asks for a break. He tells Atwater that he didn’t kill the guard and that he has never killed anyone. Atwater asks who did and he tells him he can’t tell him that. Tells him that he will find him no matter where he is and have him killed.
Lindsay is going through lab reports and find that there were a bunch of rounds recovered at the scene of the robberies. They had partial prints on them from whoever loaded the clips. They came from two kids, the Wilkes brothers. When they go to their last known address, they find them both shot to death with a shotgun.
They find out that the brothers were killed no more than 15 minutes before they got there. The kid that they saw on the bike earlier is a kid named Sammie Ray and he was seen outside of the Wilkes’ brother’s house. One of the neighbors said they saw Sammie run into the house and they heard the shots. They then saw Sammie get back on his bike and speed off.
They pay a visit to Sammie’s girlfriends house and when they pick him up, they try to get him to turn on Span. The team found $50,000 in the apartment and the serial numbers match the money from the robberies. He refuses to say anything without a public defender and a juvenile advocate.
Atwater brings the pictures in from the Wilkes’ brothers house, he tells him that Span had them killed. The man that was supposed to protect them all. Atwater tells Corey that he needs him to help them out, but Corey is worried that Span will find him and kill him. Atwater tells him that they will protect him. He agrees to make a statement. He agrees to help them if they can protect him.
Voight brings Corey downstairs to talk to him. He tells Corey that if he puts in a statement, that means that he has to testify in open court in front of Span. Voight tells him not to. Tells him that if he does, he will be found and will end up like his friends. He tells him that he will be released though because all that matters to Voight is that Corey agreed to help in the first place.
Voight tells the states attorney office that Corey isn’t going to talk because he knows that he will die if he testifies. However they got him on a parole violation, which at least gets him off the streets for a little while. Meanwhile, Corey is being brought to juvenile detention and Atwater tells him when he gets there to keep his head down. Tells him that when he gets out him and Voight will make something happen for him.
Upton goes to Voight’s office and during their chat, she thanks Voight for helping Corey. Voight then offers her the open position in Intelligence because of Burgess being on furlough. Tells her it’s an open invitation. We find out that Upton knew Platt. When Platt was in robbery homicide, Upton’s father’s diner was robbed. Her father was pistol whipped and hospitalized.
She reminded Platt that she was a little girl when they first met that night. Upton was at the diner when everything went down helping her father close out. She was so nice to her back then and also the reason she became a cop. Lindsay goes to Molly’s for a birthday get together for Halstead and brings him a present. She then decides she is going to leave. When Halstead runs after her to find out if she is ok, she says “he was only 14.” He gives her a hug and she tells him she will see him tomorrow.
