Keep reading to find out what happened tonight on Chicago PD 2017 with my Chicago PD season 4 recap. If you missed the last episode of Chicago PD 2017, you can find my recap right here! Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD started off with the team responding to a call about a dead teenager, Richie Dowd. After running the ballistics on the bullet and a gun found on scene, they match. The bullet also matches the ballistic markings on a bullet recovered from another muder, which took place 17 years ago.
Voight is confused because they recovered the murder weapon in that case, but the ballistics tech said that the caliber, make and model all matched, but it isn’t the gun. Voight now has to find the real killer and get the guy who has been behind bars for 17 years out of prison. In order to do that, he needs to reach out to his former partner, Denny Woods.
Halstead and Olinsky head over to talk to Richie’s parents, his father is a prominent defense attorney and isn’t being very cooperative. When Halstead and Olinsky ask to see Richie’s phone records to put together a timeline. He wants to look at them first before giving them to the Intelligence team for their investigation. Ruzek and Atwater find a way around that, they use his thumb to unlock the phone while Atwater distracts the ME.
Voight isn’t getting anywhere with Denny, he doesn’t want Voight poking around. When Voight tries to get the case files, they are not in the system anymore. The woman in the files office tells Voight that the daughter of the man serving a prison sentence in that case asked for the files nine months ago. Voight goes to talk to her and ask her why she was looking into it. He also tells her that he is looking into the case again.
While going through Richie’s phone, they find that he has been posting pictures of a give on a revenge porn site. The girl’s name is JoJo and when they go to talk to her, her father doesn’t let them in. He tells Ruzek and Atwater that JoJo was home all night. If they want to know more, they can come back with a warrant.
Voight goes to Platt for some help, she gets some information on some of Denny’s other convictions. He finds out that Denny and Valentine, the man in prison, had a history. When Voight goes to talk to him, he tells Voight to get someone else there to talk, he doesn’t trust Voight. Meanwhile, back at the unit, the Chief walks in to tell them that Area Central Homicide is taking the case. He tells them that he will stall the paperwork for a little while.
They are able to get JoJo to come in to answer some questions. Richie was her first boyfriend, she tells them that she cried when she found out what happened. She doesn’t seem to have wanted him dead, just wanted him to stop posting the pictures. I personally think that her father is the one that killed Richie. He didn’t seem like he was heartbroken over his murder and was very hostile when talking about him.
Voight heads back to the unit to find Denny sitting at his desk. Denny tells Voight that he is grasping for salvation. Denny thinks that he is trying to do something right in his career of doing wrong. He warns Voight to stop digging into this or else “they are going for a ride.” Voight goes to see the widow of the man killed 17 years ago. She tells Voight that the night her husband was killed, she saw a white man in the store. She was shocked when Denny showed her Valentine’s photo, because he was African American.
The team finds out that there was a 911 call from Richie’s house the night before he was killed. The housekeeper claims that she had seen an adult male trying to open the door. She ID’d the man as JoJo’s father, Raymond. Atwater and Ruzek bring Raymond in for questioning, but he can’t squeeze a tube of toothpaste. He has had surgery on his hands for carpel tunnel.
JoJo tells Lindsay that they were watching TV together at the time Richie was killed. They put JoJo and Raymond in the same room and he confesses to killing Richie, but JoJo tells them he didn’t do it. She adds that neither did she, but she knows who did. She tells Lindsay that her friend Eric killed Richie, come to find out, Eric’s father was the CI that lead them to Valentine 17 years ago. The CI kept the murder weapon and Eric used it to kill Richie.
Voight heads to the house that Eric and his father live in, but Eric isn’t there. Voight does arrest Eric’s father, Mark though. Brings him in for questioning while the team tries to track down Eric. He tells Mark that the gun that killed Nick, the man 17 years ago, was recovered at the scene of a murder his son committed.
While Voight is questioning Mark, Ruzek interrupts it. When Voight gets out of the room, he is face to face with the Chief and Denny. Denny tells him that he is being brought in front of the review board for insubordination. The Chief tells the team to turn over their file to Area Central Homicide. How is Voight going to get himself out of this?
We end tonight’s episode off with the team getting the evidence together. All of a sudden, Mark’s phone goes off and it’s a text asking what the plan is. Looks like Mark got Eric a burner phone. Lindsay gives the order to track it while it’s still on. They are able to find him and bring him in. He confesses to murdering Richie and breaks down in tears. In order for Eric to get a reduced sentence, Mark has to confess to what he did 17 years ago.
Mark confesses to killing Mark while he was strung out and he kept the gun because he didn’t realize it was the same gun. He was high on heroin the night he killed Nick. Meanwhile Voight is standing in front of a review board and Denny is trying to nail him, but Lindsay shows up. She hands one of the members of the board a folder with proof that Denny framed Valentine. He is fired on the spot. Valentine is released from prison and Voight goes to talk to him, but he closes the door on him without saying a word.
