A Gotham season 3 episode 15 behind-the-scenes video shows Nygma talking to a hallucination of Oswald Cobblepot. And he says, “Perhaps I’m thinking about this all wrong. I don’t need a teacher. I need an enemy.” Then, Cory Michael Smith explains, “Every good villain needs an antagonist.” So, that person is Lucius. And Cory Michael Smith says, “It ends up being this really fun game of torment that helps me identify that I am The Riddler.” Watch the Gotham season 3 video below.
Plus, in another Gotham season 3 video, Cory Michael Smith talks about the relationship between Nygma and Oswald. And this was a mentor relationship. So, he explains that Oswald “created Nygma from this really nervous, jittery loser working at the GCPD into this person who has some real gravitas and power.” Therefore, the moments after killing Oswald are the moments he becomes a “career criminal.” But, he adds that Nygma isn’t actually read for this. So, Oswald comes back in a hallucination. Watch the Gotham season 3 episode 15 behind-the-scenes video below.
