Jimmy McGill and Chuck McGill‘s relationship deteriorates in the Better Call Saul season 3 premiere. For a refresher on what happened in season 2 finale, read my recap.
The Better Call Saul season 3 premiere opens with a flash forward to the Cinnabon. Jimmy works the first half of his shift, then eats his lunch in the mall.
He sees a kid get escorted out by mall cops and shouts at him not to say anything and to get a lawyer. Then, he returns to work.
In the present, Jimmy asks Chuck if he can tell Howard Hamlin that he’s not quitting. Chuck asks if he understands that he just confessed to a felony. Jimmy says, “Yes. But, you feel better, right? Besides, it’s your word against mine.”
Chuck brings Howard the tape of Jimmy confessing to forgery. Howard points out that it’s useless in a court of law and wouldn’t help them get Mesa Verde back as a client. Chuck says he can still think of a use for the tape.
Mike Ehrmantraut stands by a car in the desert. He wields a gun. He finds a note on the car that says “don’t.”
At home, he removes the lid of the car’s gas tank. He uses a screwdriver to open it up and look inside. He finds a GPS tracker inside and writes down the info on it.
At the office, Jimmy helps a client named Mrs. Van Camp. She happily tells him about her family and he indulgently listens and says he looks forward to seeing more photos of them.
That night, Mike sits in his tollbooth. At the end of the day, he closes up, then takes the lid off his gas tank and hides it in a high up place.
Mike meets up with the Veterinarian and shows him the info he wrote down. The Veterinarian tells him that it’ll take him a few days to do the job.
Jimmy and Kim Wexler stay late at the office. Jimmy paints over the rainbow in the waiting room. Kim finishes up her work for Mesa Verde. At the last minute, she decides to do another edit.
Ernesto brings groceries to Chuck. He also brings him batteries. Chuck directs Ernesto to change the batteries in his tape recorder.
Mike is able to use what he’s gathered to get a lead on who’s tracking his car. He grabs his gun and drives off.
