The Top 4 on Top Chef 2013 Season 10 are one step away from making it to the Top Chef Seattle Finale, but they have a Quickfire Challenge and Elimination Challenge ahead of them in Alaska before they can reach that final step. It is down to Josh, Sheldon, Brooke and Lizzie on Top Chef 2013, so two guys and two girls. The cheftestants will be taking on king crabs while in Alaska, but which of the chefs will be feeling like a king when Top Chef Seattle crowns it’s winner? Find out who was eliminated on Top Chef Seattle during my Top Chef 2013 Season 10 Live Recap.
Last week on Top Chef Season 10, we saw the five remaining chefs board a cruise from Seattle to Alaska, but it wasn’t all fun and games while on the cruise, even though we did see Sheldon partake in a manicure with Lizzie! Sheldon has surprised me this season, as he won another Quickfire Challenge and was able to pick first for the meat he wanted to use for the Elimination Challenge. While it seemed like an advantage, it came to bite him in the ass as he almost went home when the judges were not impressed with his dish. Instead, Stefan made a dish that impressed the judges even less and he was sent to Top Chef: Last Kitchen to take on Kristen.
This is where it gets fun and interesting, as these four are fighting to make the finale. They are excited, but going to miss Stefan. Josh’s wife is supposed to have her baby any day now, so that is on his mind now. The chefs arrive in Alaska and are excited to make it this close to the end.
They head out and meet Padma Lakshmi and Chef Sean Brock and time for the Quickfire Challenge, which will be to create a dish highlighting Alaskan Crab and the winner gets $5,000. Sheldon has never cooked it before, so he is nervous. Lizzie is going to make something that is rustic. Brooke loves the crab and keeps eating it! Josh feels he cooks like Sean Brock, so he is tipping his hat to him and creating a dish similar to what Sean would cook. Sheldon wants to get creative, so he is making a miso soup and using pine needles!
The time runs out and Padma and Sean taste the dishes. Sean tells Lizzie the crab is awesome. Padma tells Sheldon the broth is nice, but a little thick. Sean thinks Brooke’s dish is delicious. Sean tells Josh that his succotash tastes like being at home.
The less successful dishes were Lizzie, who they thought it was a little overcooked, and Josh, who had bacon and it covered up the taste of the squash. The best dishes were Sheldon, who highlighted the crab, and Brooke, whose dish was flat-out delicious. The winner of the Quickfire Challenge is Sheldon, yet again. How does he do it?
For the Elimination Challenge tonight on Top Chef Seattle, the chefs will be creating a dish featuring salmon and sourdough to the people of Juneau. This is a local dish, so the pressure is on to impress them with something they eat all the time. The winner of the challenge gets a trip to Costa Rica!
The chefs get back to their new digs and they have their starter kit for the bread, so they start making the dough so it can rise over night and bake it the next day. Sheldon works Asian ingredients into his bread, which Brooke is pissed about. Lizzie is making individual rolls and stuffing salmon in them. Now they all just sit around and wait for the dough to rise and they are all bored with it on Top Chef Season 10.
The next day arrives and the chefs head out to get their fish. There are apparently a few different types of salmon, so the chefs have to figure out which kind to use. They get the fish right off the boat, so it is some fresh stuff! The chefs gut and clean the fish and they are all enjoying themselves, for now.
Cooking day and the chefs have three days to get their dishes ready. Sheldon is worried about making a pea soup, but doesn’t he always make soup? Tom Colicchio comes in and check in on the chefs. Tom was going to eat pea soup and salmon the day before, so Sheldon is feeling confident with his choices. Tom questioned why Brooke was going to poach her salmon, which makes her question herself now.
Time is running out and Sheldon is running way behind, with just putting his salmon on the grill and his bread not cut. The time is up and the people start arriving. The judges arrive and this week it will be Tom, Padma, Emeril Lagasse, Gail Simmons, Hugh Acheson and Chef Sean Brock.
For Brooke, Tom said her broth works. Sean said the broth was beautifully seasoned and Emeril said she nailed the bread. For Sheldon, Emeril said he likes the crust, but it doesn’t have any salt. Gail said the salmon had a charred taste to it. Sean liked the soup, but Hugh did not.
For Josh, Hugh said the salmon is great and well-cooked. Tom didn’t know if the two went together well. Emeril loved the concept of the soup. Gail liked that he pushed himself a little bit. For Lizzie, Gail said she likes the pickles. Hugh said she is the only one to get the bread done right. Sean said she could have pushed herself a little harder. Padma loves the sourdough. Emeril said he would have tried something a little more challenging.
The event ends and time for the judges to discuss the dishes at the Judges’ Table on Top Chef 2013 Season 10. Padma said the locals were very impressed, but Tom said they should be congratulated on a job well done. Padma asks Lizzie if she tasted a slider, but she tasted all the components but not together and the judges tell her that she should have. Sheldon used chum salmon, which apparently the locals use to feed the dogs! What??? Brooke seemed to get high praises and Josh seemed to have a bad balance to his dish, but who will win the challenge? The winner of this challenge on Top Chef Seattle is Brooke, but no shocker there!
The judges discuss the other three dishes and Tom said they are not thinking their dishes through. It looks like Lizzie is going home for making a simple dish and she was the only one that didn’t make a soup tonight. Who do you think will be eliminated on Top Chef Seattle?
The judges have made their decision and who is eliminated on Top Chef 2013? Lizzie has been eliminated and I called it! I guess she should have went with a soup?
Over in Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen, Lizzie will take on Kristen and the winner will be one step closer to the Top Chef 2013 Season 10 Finale. Who do you think will win?
