Tonight on Chicago PD season 4, Intelligence investigates the murder of a “Nightcrawler” and find themselves investigating one of the wealthiest families in Chicago. Also on Chicago PD 2017, Burgess gets a visit from her sister, Nicole, and doesn’t seem to think too highly of Ruzek. If you missed last week’s episode of Chicago PD season 4, check out my Chicago PD 2017 recap right here! Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD season 4 started off with Burgess telling Ruzek that her sister is coming and then drops the bomb on him that after what happened, her sister kind of hates him now. Then they get a call. They get to the scene and find a dead guy named Bobby Trent and he is what they call a “Nightcrawler,” a videographer who records crime scenes.
Bobby’s daughter, Margo, is there and asks to talk to Voight and she tells him that she knew something was wrong when she couldn’t access the servers they use to upload their footage. When they check out his place, everything electronic is destroyed but Bobby managed to hide some footage of a woman inside one of the walls in his place. They only piece of footage that he had backed up was footage of a young woman dying after being shot while her daughter was standing there.
Meanwhile, Burgess’ sister shows up and thanks Platt for being such a great mentor to her sister and she then offers her a cup of coffee and walks her upstairs. When Ruzek goes to say hi to her, she is really cold to him and Burgess brings her to get coffee. Atwater has been going through hate mail addressed to Bobby and there is one that popped, AJ Hines, who actually put a hit out on Bobby over social media. Atwater wasn’t able to confirm AJ’s last known address, but he is Snapchatting close by.
When Atwater confronts AJ at what looks like a mall, he runs and him and Ruzek chase after him. They eventually catch up to him on the roof of the building and bring him in. While talking to him, Halstead gets a match on the woman’s face in the video they found in the wall, Sara Huntley is her name and when Olinsky and Voight pay the parents a visit, they find out she doesn’t live there anymore. She is an addict and they cut her off in an attempt to show her some tough love. They have no idea where she is.
When they go back to the precinct, they don’t have anything that ties her with Bobby until they cross reference her phone records and find that once a week she was in the same area Bobby was in. They find out that there is an NA meeting in that area and go to see if they can find her there. Lindsay and Halstead go and they found her and she tells them that she met him at the meetings and really liked him. They showed her the video they found and she tells them that the video is of her trying to make amends as part of her recovery. She is confused as to why Bobby would be following her and recording her.
Burgess, Nicole and Zoe, Burgess’ niece, are in the car and Nicole invites her into where she is staying. There are moving boxes in the place and Nicole tells Burgess that her and her husband are getting divorced and she and Zoe are going to be staying there for a while. Meanwhile, back at the precinct, Ruzek and Halstead get a call from their tech place and see that in the video of Sara making amends with her ex, there is an SUV and in the reflection on the side of the SUV is Sara’s father, who supposedly cut all ties with his daughter.
Sara is in the wind, the address she gave them has been cleared out. Halstead thinks that the missing piece of the video is the key to what happened. Meanwhile, Atwater and Voight are following up on the other video they found of the little girl watching her mother die. She tells them that she knows Bobby because he was doing a documentary on her, I’m thinking it was about her overcoming the loss of her mother.
They found Sara, she is staying the a penthouse suite and she tells them that her father booked it because she made amends with him and he is going to let her move back home. They think that her and Bobby were blackmailing her father and with her not really telling them the truth about anything, they are going to hold her until they get some truth.
The ME’s office calls and they need them right away and when they get there, the ME shows them a flash drive that she found in Bobby’s stomach. It isn’t a video file though, it’s an audio file that is the same exact length as the video they have already. They play them at the same time and hear the conversation that she and her father had that night. It isn’t her making amends with him, it’s her trying to get him to admit to raping her when she was a child, but the only thing he admits is that back then he was “sick.” She gets mad and walks off.
Lindsay goes in to talk to Sara and Lindsay tells her that she understands why she wouldn’t tell them what was on the video. Lindsay tells her that if she didn’t know that Bobby recorded it, that’s fine, but this video gives her father motive to kill Bobby. This video would kill their family business and ruin her family. It’s worth millions. Lindsay tells the team that she isn’t sure that they are going to be able to break her. Lindsay and Halstead have been acting off, Voight notices it and calls Halstead aside to ask him what’s going on. Halstead tells him that they are just working some things out and Voight warns him that if they don’t clear it up, Halstead is gone.
The team get a call from downstairs that Sara’s lawyer, or should we say her father’s lawyer and one of his colleagues, and she wants to talk to her client. Voight tells them to stall. Lindsay goes in to take a crack at Sara again and she is able to get through to her with some personal experience stories.
She outright asks Sara if her father killed Bobby and Sara rolls on her father. She wrote a complete statement about the rape when she was nine and a full statement about him admitting to her that he killed Bobby for their family. The father and his lawyer think that she is lying, but Voight has an original recording of the entire conversation.
We ended tonight’s episode off with Halstead talking to Lindsay and he tells her that he doesn’t want to tiptoe around her at work. He then tells her that he just needs some time and she tells him that she does too. She then says “thank God for the job thought, right? Everyday you get to meet someone with bigger problems than yours.” She then tells him that she got Sara into a 90 day rehab and she is going to go get her checked in.
Burgess goes to her sister’s, they are supposed to be going to a party together, but Burgess tells her that she is going to stay with Zoe and that she should still go. When Nicole leaves for the party, Burgess tells her that they are going to have pizza and talk about how how much it sucks that her parents are getting divorced. Atwater is watching a video of the young girl again and she is talking about how her father has never seen her play. He is serving time in prison. Voight gets him a day pass and brings him to see his little girl play at her piano lesson.
Come back next week to find out what happens when Nicole is targeted and the entire CPD has her back!
