Bay Kennish and Daphne Vasquez throw a party at their apartment to pay their bills in Switched at Birth season 5 episode 8. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 7.
Switched at Birth season 5 episode 8 opens with Ally trying to cook dinner to thank Bay and Daphne for letting her crash with them. She ruins the meal, but Bay shows up with pizza that she says cost her the last of her money.
While they’re talking, the lights go off. It turns out that Bay didn’t know they had an electric bill.
Bay asks John Kennish for help and he gives her candles. He says he won’t loan her money because she chose to get a job rather than go to school.
Bay and Ally decide to throw a party and charge people to pay the bills. While they’re inviting people, Bay runs into Simone. Ally tells her about the party.
Daphne goes on a date with Chris Walker at the batting cages. They find out they grew up in neighborhoods that were right next to each other.
Daphne talks to a doctor about a pattern of bruises she saw on Chris. The doctor says it sounds like he’s injecting himself with steroids.
At the party, Bay worries about Simone. Travis Barnes serves Jell-O shots for Bay, Daphne and Ally.
Later, Toby Kennish confronts a couple of guys who were making fun of people with disabilities. One of the guys shoves Toby, so Travis steps in and punches him.
Outside of the party, Toby admits to Bay that hearing people make fun of mental disabilities never bothered him before. But, he says that now a paternal instinct hit in when he heard guys talking like that.
Regina Vasquez finds out that her boyfriend Luca dated their T.A. Lauren. She worries that Luca is over at Lauren’s apartment, so she and Kathryn Kennish park outside her place. But, Lauren spots them.
The party moves down to the cafe below the apartment. People stack all the mugs and play beer pong on them.
Daphne tells Kathryn that she believes someone on the baseball team is using steroids. She tells her that she’s worried the school could get in big trouble.
Regina vents to Luca about Bay’s party trashing the cafe. Luca brings up the fact that Regina was parked outside his ex’s place.
At the end of the episode, Bay sells her car to pay her bills. She tells John that it feels like she’s saying goodbye to being a kid. John tells her that she kind of is.
