If you missed last week’s episode of Chicago Fire season 5, check out my Chicago Fire 2017 recap right here!Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire season 5 started off with Herrmann and Otis talking about a pub crawl, but Otis doesn’t think that Molly’s should be a part of it due to the crowd it usually attracts. Meanwhile, a man named Mr. Schlotman shows up to the house yelling for Alderman Casey and Casey is able to calm him down and get him out of the firehouse after promising to call him at his earliest convenience.
Moment’s later they get a call about a motor vehicle accident. When they get there they find a car with a woman and her son inside. The woman looks to have been hit in the head by a large piece of concrete and the boy, Zach, who couldn’t be more than 7 years old, is in the back talking to the team. He asks where Leila is and when Severide asks who Leila is, Zach tells them Leila is his baby sister and she was right there, pointing at the car seat base in the seat next to him.
They all scramble to find the baby when all of a sudden they hear crying, a guy who was at the scene when they got there said it was coming from a nearby storm drain. Sure enough, there is a baby girl inside. They are able to get her out and they get Zach, Leila and their mother to the hospital where Severide leaves Zach with Anna. Back at the house, Dawson asks Cruz is there was any mention about how the accident happened, but there wasn’t. She asked him if the giant piece of concrete was mentioned, because it just seemed like it didn’t get there by accident.
Dawson tracks down the cop handling the case and because no one mentioned seeing anything strange, they put the file at the bottom of the pile. Dawson asks Brett if she wants to go back to the scene with her, take a look around and Dawson notices something off. There was pieces of concrete in the road where the car was hit with the concrete that knocked the mother out. It looks like someone was on the overpass dropping concrete down onto cars as the drove under it. Dawson brings this up to the lead investigator and he makes the case his priority.
While dropping another patient off at the hospital, Dawson runs into a medic from another house and he tells Dawson that he just got done responding to a pretty nasty accident. Woman might lose her leg, but she was a lucky that there was a guy there who stopped the bleeding until they got there. When Dawson looks over, she sees the same guy that was at the scene of the accident they responded to the one who found the baby in the storm drain. He runs off when Dawson calls out for him.
While Dawson, the other medic and the lead investigator are talking about the guy who was coincidentally at both scenes, Dr. Charles over hears the conversation. He tells them that it sounds like hero syndrome and gives them an idea of what it is. It’s basically when someone causes accidents so that they can be there to help. Dawson tells the lead investigator about a patch on the guys jacket and that he had a motorcycle helmet so if they check the cameras in the back they might be able to get a tag number.
Severide goes in to see Anna and check on Zach, when he goes in to talk to him everything seems fine, until Zach starts coughing and then stops breathing. They find that Zach was drowning on his own blood, so they put a chest tube in and intubated him to help him breathe.
Severide goes back to bring Anna coffee and check on Zach again and Anna is clearly upset. She is having a hard time with this case and not having anyone in town that she can go have a drink with to clear her head after shift. Meanwhile, Dawson goes to pay a visit to the bike shop that the guy from the accidents goes to. She finds out that his name is Scott and he ordered a muffler from the shop. He gives Dawson the invoice with the guys address on it and when they go check it out, he doesn’t answer. As they are leaving, we see him outside behind a parked car trying to stay out of sight.
Back at the house, Otis is feeling a little sour about Herrmann forking over thousands of dollars for the pub crawl because Kidd said it was a good idea, but never tried any of Otis’ ideas. Moments later, they get another call about a car accident, but when they get to the scene, they don’t see an accident. All of a sudden, Dawson notices someone up on the overpass and a huge piece of concrete flying towards their windshield!
The piece of concrete misses both of them and Casey and the guys in the truck go after the guy who threw it. Surprise, surprise, it’s the same guy from the scenes of both accidents and he is claiming that there was an accident and he was just going to get help. They get back to the house and Cruz is giving Severide some advice on how to help Anna through her slump.
Casey goes to meet with Mr. Schlotman to help him with an issue he is having with construction outside his house. Come to find out the only thing bothering him is the porter potty outside his window. Casey pays the foreman to move it. Severide takes Anna to Molly’s but when Herrmann decides to turn it into disco night, Severide decides to bring her ice skating. Meanwhile Dawson gets an update on the family from earlier, they are all doing well. She asks Casey if they are ever going to be family, he tells her that they already are a family. She is clearly missing Louie and missing being a mom.
