A new discovery within the conspiracy emerges in Designated Survivor season 1 episode 12. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 11.
Designated Survivor season 1 episode 12 opens with Hannah Wells speaking to Tom Kirkman at his hospital bed. Kirkman says that Peter MacLeish fooled everyone– but not Hannah.
Mike Ritter tells Hannah he has an office she can work out of where they can maintain her cover story that she’s in police custody. Kirkman asks her to come back with a plan on how to get MacLeish.
Emily Rhodes asks Seth Wright if he can stop MacLeish’s upcoming press conference. Seth says he has the authority to schedule his own press conferences.
Hannah goes to Jason Atwood for information. But, he says that the terrorists can’t know he’s cooperating with her while his son is still missing. He tells her, “You want help? Find my son.”
Emily tells Kirkman what she knows about the call Aaron Shore made. She also tells him that he confronted her about reporting the call to Kirkman.
After meeting with MacLeish, Kirkman tells Mike how difficult it was not to physically attack MacLeish on the spot. Mike assures him that MacLeish will screw up and then they’ll have him.
Aaron tells Kirkman that Emily has been looking into his phone records. Kirkman says that was on his direction.
Hannah speaks to Alan Joiner, a man who served with MacLeish. She asks enough questions to make him nervous, in hopes that he’ll contact MacLeish.
A doctor advises Kirkman against leaving the hospital. He says that he has to get back to the White House because it’s a national emergency.
MacLeish believes he can just talk to Alan and calm him down. But, his wife and fellow conspirator Beth MacLeish thinks Alan needs to be taken out.
Jason gets out of prison to go to a lake where his son’s body was found. He sobs by the side of the lake.
Beth realizes that the FBI agent who spoke to Alan was probably Hannah. She tries to contact Peter, but he’s not answering the phone.
MacLeish meets up with Alan. He assures him that the truth has been buried.
Hannah listens to their conversation. She attempts to arrest MacLeish for perjury. But, Beth surprises her. She kills MacLeish and then herself.
At the end of the episode, Kirkman leaves the hospital with Alex Kirkman. But, Mike arrives to give him the news, separating him from Alex so they can speak privately.
