The latest episode of Powerless Season 1 opens with the gang at Wayne Security discussing “cold season.” Emily (Vanessa Hudgens) questions why everyone is so bundled up in such hot weather, but she is told that “cold season” does not refer to illness or the climate, but rather the fact that it is the time of year when cold-themed supervillains begin to do battle. Teddy (Danny Pudi) then runs down the rather lengthy list of blizzardy baddies that could possibly make an appearance in Charm City this year. Emily responds that since she hails from the Midwest, she isn’t scared by a little cold weather and this response is promptly withdrawn when an icy villain soars by covering the windows of Wayne Security with frost.
More Powerless Season 1 tech is then shown off as Teddy displays gloves he designed that can warm up anything to a iced over car door or a cup of coffee-or in Emily’s case, her now boiling hot soda. Emily then reveals that Wayne Enterprises is holding an Innovation Contest and she wants her team to enter. After being taunted by workers in the Wayne X division of Wayne Enterprises, Emily spurs Wayne Security into action in an attempt to win the contest.
Emily and Teddy get to work perfecting Teddy’s gloves, but Teddy freaks out when they aren’t able to pop a bag of popcorn kernel free. Emily is ready to scrap their entry, but is again taunted back into the competition by Wayne X. As she goes off to get Teddy back into the game, Jackie (Christina Kirk) stops her and tells her to be sure that they can win the competition since the last time Teddy entered a contest he lost and had a psychotic break that sent him spiraling down to Tampa, FL.
Emily then goes behind Teddy’s back to enter his gloves into the Innovation Contest. When he overreacts, she assures him his invention has made the finals, finals that do not actually exist. Shortly thereafter, Wayne X announces to her that they’ve won the Innovation Contest and Emily fears Teddy may already be en route to Tampa. She rushes off to his apartment only to find him hosting a going away party for his brother A.J. (a professional space doctor busy taking calls from the President) with his parents in attendance.
Van Wayne (Alan Tudyk) later enlists Ron‘s (Ron Funches) help in assembling a Superman Coupe child’s play car for the child of a woman he is dating. When the woman’s child turns out to be a girl, he then sends Ron a child’s sized version of Wonder Woman’s Invisible Jet to assemble. Wendy (Jennie Pierson) warns Ron to set some boundaries, but her affable coworker doesn’t yet see how much he is being taken advantage of. Ron assembles the Jet perfectly, so perfectly that Van then calls him up to assemble 4 more planes for his girlfriend’s daughter’s “squad.” Ron finally stands up for himself and refuses to assemble anything further. Ron eventually apologizes to Van and Van apologizes for being bossy, blaming it on his affluent upbringing surrounded by servants. He tells Ron of a treehouse his father always promised to build him, but never did. Ron vows to make good on the promise and tells Van he will make the treehouse, a treehouse that it is then revealed Van is having made for his girlfriend’s daughter.
The next day at Wayne Security, Teddy appears to be doing fine and is eager to help Emily with the group’s latest project. When he actually starts speaking, however, he accuses the company of being garbage that doesn’t recognize quality or talent. As he sulks and acts out, Emily realizes she needs to snap him out of it and shows him the winning invention of the Innovation Contest: a functioning, human-sized android. Teddy is embarrassed and angry and confronts Emily about entering his gloves in the contest without his permission. As the two begin to argue, snowy supervillain Frostbite soars by and blasts them with a cold wave just as the Crimson Fox attempts to warn them of the danger.
The Crimson Fox is then encased in ice along with most of the Wayne Security building. Emily and Teddy are then trapped on the balcony, but realize that Teddy’s gloves may be the key to saving themselves and Crimson Fox. As the two thaw the hero, they discuss Teddy’s frustration with living in his brother’s shadow and the fact that Emily doesn’t relate since she’s the more successful sibling in her own family. Once the gloves successfully thaw out Crimson Fox, she asks Teddy for them so she can use them to fight crime. The episode then ends with a newscast declaring Cold Season to be over thanks to the Crimson Fox defeating a number of cold-themed supervillains with the help of Teddy’s gloves marking the second time on Powerless Season 1 that gadgets from Wayne Security made it into the arsenals of DC superheroes.
