Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire season 5 started off with a call about a fire and it is a big one because they are getting numerous calls about it. They aren’t sure if they are coming from people seeing it, or people inside the building. They 51 gets to the scene, they find themselves in a Mass Casualty situation and trying to get as many people out of the building as they can, but the doors are jammed!
After getting the door open, people start pouring out and once the exit is cleared, the team heads in to look for people stuck inside. Firehouse 51 and Ambulance 61 have support from all of the surrounding firehouses on this call. Boden asks Otis for a layout of the building and Otis tells him that it’s a mess and there is stuff everywhere. He adds that they will have to pull a lot of bodies out of there because the building is practically made of kindling.
While inside trying to get a girl named Kathy out, Mouch goes down and ends up covered in debris, but they are able to get him and Kathy out of the building. Mouch is being sent to Chicago Med to be checked out and Boden makes a call to not send anyone else it. That’s until Olinsky shows up and tells Boden that his daughter Lexi is in there! Boden and Olinsky start looking around for Lexi in the triage area. When Severide comes out he says that they can hear voices in the back and that they are going to need another minute, Boden is reluctant, but he tells Severide to lead the way.
At Med, Mouch sees how big of a mess it is and he tells Maggie that he will check into the nurses station and that she should focus on the ones who really need it. Choi is working on a patient when Goodwin comes out to check on him because of Mr. Winters, the burn patient he lost last week.
Back at the fire, Boden and Severide find Lexi and another young lady in a room in the back. When they get them, they are forced to go through a wall to get out because the fire is right behind them. There is another explosion, they don’t report to Casey and Herrmann wants to go in after them, but moments later they come out with Lexi and the other girl.
Brett and Dawson get Lexi to Med, she had burns over 60% of her body and she is in critical condition. Back at the fire, Boden and Casey are walking around the scene when Boden looks at the bodies they are pulling from the building. He tells Casey to get blankets to cover them up with. Later, we see as people start putting together a vigil site and Voight and Crowley pull up. Voight thanks Boden for saving Lexi’s life and he tells Voight that is was just “One father helping another father.”
Back at Med, Burgess shows up to support Olinsky and Halstead and Manning come out with an update. She is in burn shock and on a ventilator, he lungs were severely damaged by the smoke. They are going to keep a close eye on her for the next 24 hours and do everything they can for her. Olinsky goes in to see her. Back at the scene, the building owner shows up to talk to OFI and he ends up attacked by the loved ones of people who died in the fire.
Mr. Kimble is the property owner and he is telling them that he was allowing some kids to crash in the building and allowing them to throw small parties in his father’s old factory. Casey mentions to him that he should have had the building brought up to code and by “mentions,” I mean scolded him for not doing it. The Lt. Hubble is asking Kimble for a list of tenants and anyone who had access to the building. After he is done, he asks for a bathroom and goes into the bathroom and shoots himself in the head!
Severide and OFI inspector are looking through the building and while inspecting the building, they think they have found evidence that this was an arson. They find an odd burn pattern on the wall and a broken light bulb on the floor where it looks like it sparked some kind of accelerant.
We end this episode off with Casey telling Boden that he is heading out and asking Boden if he needs anything. Boden tells him he is good and tells him to get going. Casey tells him that they have seen and talked people off ledges before, how did they not catch this? Severide comes in and tells them that they are going to want to see this.
They found a light bulb that was filled with accelerant and put into a paper bag. Severide heads into the locker room and Kidd comes in to tell him that there is someone here to see him. It’s Anna and she is there to tell him that she decided that she is going to move to Chicago and take a position as a pediatric nurse at Med!
