On this week’s episode of Bachelor in Paradise…oh wait I mean The Challenge Invasion. With so little to do on the island, the contestants are finding comfort with one another. After last week, six competitors remain fighting for a their ticket to The Oasis. Let’s dive in!
Nelson, Shane, Anthony, Amanda, Latoya & Sylvia have not yet won their way in to The Oasis. Some of the competitors have competed before, some are new to the challenge, but they all want the same thing. However, their time in paradise soon comes to an end for two of them.
The conversation between Amanda & Nelson is both touching as well as warming. These two were not the best of friends whether on Are You The One Season 3 or Rivals III. Their bond however remains intact as Nelson encourages Amanda to keep fighting. Amanda let’s us know that she is fighting for her father, a victim of both a heart attack and a stroke. She is in the competition to take care of her father.
Personally, the underdog stories this season are run of the mill but their struggles are certainly real. I must commend the producers for showcasing a different side to the cast members this season, allowing the underdogs to truly feel that way.
Is This Bachelor in Paradise
Tonight’s episode of The Challenge Invasion felt all too similar to an episode of Bachelor in Paradise. Each and every contestant clinging on to another cast member of the opposite sex in hopes of sticking around. That “polidicking” Ashley mentioned last week seems certain. Between Kailah & Cory’s daytime tryst on the beach to Nelson & LaToya’s How Stella Got Her Groove Back romance, the cast’s boredom and level of horniness aligned.
Final Challenge – Caged & Confused
The challenge to secure a spot in The Oasis was simple. The cast were forced in to a cage, spun around about 100 times, and then had to move the cage with their body once free from the rope. Furthermore, the cast had to retrieve a key on the other end of the course to free themselves from the cage. Once they retrieve the key and free themselves, the first guy and girl to cross the finish line are safe from elimination and have a trip to The Oasis. The losers are sent directly to elimination.
First up are the girls Amanda, LaToya & Sylvia. Unfortunately for the girls, the cage proved more of a challenge than they had estimated. LaToya took the lead early, and Nelson so brilliantly stated she was “putting that booty to work”. Amanda and Sylvia are flailing in the background unable to make any moves forward. The tides eventually turned as LaToya lost steam and Amanda came out front and dominating the competition. Her motivation thrust her to victory in the challenge and securing a ticket to the Oasis.
Continuously, the gentlemen Anthony, Shane & Nelson took their turns in the cages. Much like LaToya, Shane took an early lead leaving his competitors in the dust. A struggle to reach the ropes provided Anthony with an opportunity to upset Shane. Regrettably, Nelson’s performance during the competition was embarrassing and he never had a chance. In the last moments of the game, Shane pulls out front and secures a victory and his ticket to The Oasis.
Let’s Talk About Burger King
Please someone explain to me where the closest Burger King is on the remote island in Thailand. Furthermore, giving a group of Crossfit & gym rats a year supply of Burger King is as ironic as giving Over Eaters Annoynmous a year supply of kale. It does not make sense. While I enjoyed the cast splurging on the celebratory Burger King provided to them at the shelter, I continued wondering about the freshness of the food they feasted on.
Elimination – Thai Rise
The losers, Nelson, Anthony, LaToya & Sylvia had a simple elimination round. They had to ascend 1000 feet up the Tiger Cave Temple, pick up a heavy bag, make their way back down the 1000 feet and ring in. Each of them started on staggered times, and the fastest male & female to complete the elimination would secure their spot in The Oasis.
First, Sylvia started her trek up the endless stairs, followed by LaToya, then Nelson and finally Anthony. As a result of the staggered starts, Sylvia found herself gassed out, Nelson passing Sylvia and the other two competitors permanently behind.
By and large, Nelson and Sylvia maintained their lead ahead of their rightful competitors. At the top of the Temple Mount, the two of them procured their bags and it was all downhill (literally) for them. The continued rain storm elevated the drama of the challenge, but unfortunately played no real part in the outcome.
Ultimately, Nelson and Sylvia won the elimination round and Anthony & LaToya were sent packing. Lastly, TJ Lavin graciously informs the winners to instruct the rest of the cast they were leaving for The Oasis that night.
Destination – Oasis
The cast’s arrival at The Oasis followed up with their pure joy and ecstasy of having real showers, bathrooms and clean towels. As a matter of fact, some of the couples took advantage of the privacy. Ashley and Hunter may be the first couple to make use of the beds in the house. Lucky for us, the producers night vision all the cameras in the house, but unluckily it did not pay dividends. The hookup between Ashley and Hunter was blurred out entirely and left us all wondering (but not really).
To Be The Champions…
TJ welcomes the cast to their first challenge since arriving to The Oasis. He gives a speech talking about the challenge only just beginning, and in order to be the champions, they have to beat the champions. Out walk Johnny Bananas, CT, Darrell, Zach, Cara Maria, Ashley, Laurel & Camila.
