If you miss last week’s episode of Chicago Fire season 5, check out my Chicago Fire 2017 recap right here for all the details! Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire season 5 started off with a look at Brett, Kidd, Cruz, Cap and the others getting used to their new houses. Boden is introducing himself, Casey, Severide and Dawson to the new crew for 51. Just then, they get a call for a man who was hit by a car and launched. So far that he is hanging from a security camera on the side of a nearby parking garage. The new members of the team are definitely not the brightest crayons in the box either.
Brett and Kidd were put in the same house, Kidd used to work there and the chief isn’t the easiest person to work for. He is currently ripping a new one into a new female candidate. Meanwhile, Otis is talking to a couple of the guys in his new unit and one is a former coworker of his. Herrmann and Mouch run into Dawson, Casey and Severide at the fuel up station and they aren’t doing too well in their new house either.
Boden is trying to get his team back when Anderson walks into the meeting and starts being, well, being Anderson. Claiming favoritism and telling them that he is just running things the way things have always run . He is clearly not a fan of Boden’s and just trying to make his life miserable, but he is claiming that he is doing everything by the book. Later when Boden gets back to the house, he tells Casey, Dawson and Severide that based on what happened at this meeting, the changes at 51 may be permanent.
After their meeting with Boden, they find out that the men that were sent to their house are all floaters and haven’t been able to find permanent houses since they finished training. Meanwhile, Otis is telling his new coworkers stories, stories that aren’t his to tell. He is claiming that all the exciting stories of 51 that other firefighters have gone through are his, but they aren’t. He later gets called out when he messes up and tells them a story about a squad call that he was clearly not on.
Kidd’s new chief is still ripping into the female candidate and Kidd steps in. The chief gives Kidd the candidates grunt work and threatens anyone that helps her. Herrmann and Mouch head over to 51 to talk to Boden and they are begging for him to do something because they don’t want to go out in a house like the one they are in. They work with a bunch of “stiff” that couldn’t care less if they saw a fire. Boden tells them to get used to it and Herrmann goes off. Boden explains that he has gone to HQ and there isn’t anything anyone can do about this.
Dawson is trying to hide from her new partner, who has had a huge crush on her for, well forever. Just then, they get a call for a kitchen accident and when they get there they find one of the guys, Carlos, there missing four of his fingers. When they got there the owner of the restaurant tells them that they should have come through the back door like he requested. While they are wrapping his hand, they are still being asked to go out the back door so the patrons don’t see it. Dawson marches Carlos out of through the dining room with his fingers in a ziploc bag telling everyone eating that they are working on cleaning all the blood and that she is sure there is nothing to worry about.
Severide and Casey go in to talk to Boden and tells him that he put a call into Benny to try and get some dirt on Anderson and Boden says “ok, do whatever you need to.” Moments later they get a call where every house is called and Cruz and Cap show up in gear to assist Squad. It’s a hotel fire where they are at 60% capacity and there is an event in the ballroom. When Squad 3 get there, the door of the ballroom is jammed.
The lock on the door is fortified so they try to pry it from the hinge side, but that is fortified too. They call in to Boden and he has an idea. He grabs something out of the truck and runs inside, Otis notices and grabs some hoses out of his truck and runs in after him. Boden brings them a hydralic wedge and they get the doors open. As everyone is leaving and Boden goes into the ballroom to get a guy on the floor out. The fire closes in, but Otis is there to fight the fire and get Boden and the man out.
When he gets outside, his team is there and Otis calls out to tell them the fire is out. Later, Boden gets a visit from the Deputy Mayor, who also happens to be the man he saved from that hotel fire. He wants to thank him and tell him that his team did an amazing job saving the lives of many government officials. He tells Boden that he wants to talk to the Mayor about commendation, but Boden tells him he wants something else more than a metal. He asks for his team back and Anderson isn’t too happy about it, but Boden and the 51 team are back together.
We end the episode off with Severide calling Anna to tell her that he has made a decision and his decision is to stay in Chicago. He tells her that as much as he wants to be with her, Chicago is his home.
