Toby Kennish and Lily Summers get married on Switched at Birth season 5 episode 3. For a refresher on what happened last week, read my recap of episode 2.
Switched at Birth season 5 episode 3 opens with Daphne Vasquez having a stress dream about running with Bay Kennish through the words in search of medical help while they were in China. She wakes up and checks that Bay is in her bed. Instead, she sees Bay on her way out to get breakfast with Travis Barnes.
Bay runs into Mary Beth Tucker. When Mary Beth acts cold, Bay apologizes for telling her in an email that she’s dating Travis. Mary Beth tells her, “It’s whatever. It happened.”
Toby and Lily catch up with the family. Then, they announce that they’re getting married and they want to have the ceremony immediately, in the Kennish living room.
Daphne gets ordained so she can perform the ceremony. Plus, Toby asks Bay to be his best man.
Bay stops by Mary Beth’s dorm to give her a gift. She sees that Tank is there and realizes they’re together. Bay is speechless and walks away.
Mary Beth follows Bay out of the dorm. Bay asks, “How could you be with him after what he did?” Mary Beth says, “You always said that you don’t know what happened that night and you could’ve said yes and you didn’t remember.” Then, Bay says, “I know what I said, but you’re not allowed to forgive him for something that happened to me.”
Luca tells Daphne a story about a fellow soldier in Afghanistan who he brought in for medical treatment. This makes Daphne have a panic attack as she remembers Bay getting sick in China. So, Luca tells her, “Let’s get you some air.”
Luca takes Daphne outside and talks to her about her nightmares. He says that it could be a form of PTSD.
During the wedding, Lily is clearly angry at Toby. But, she tells Daphne to get on with it. Daphne pronounces them married. Then, Lily storms off.
Toby finds Lily. She tells him that she’s jealous he gets to go to work, play with their kid for an hour, then go to bed.
Tank visits the house. He tells Bay that Mary Beth’s mom is sick. Then, he says that the last thing he wants to do is hurt Bay more than he already has.
Daphne talks to Regina Vasquez, after finally opening up about Bay’s sickness in China. She says that she has Luca to thank for her opening up. So, Regina finally tells her that she’s with Luca.
At the end of the episode, Bay checks in with Emmett Bledsoe. Then, he asks her to come over. After a moment of hesitation, she tells him that she’s on her way.
