When he gets home, he finds his mother being attacked by someone. She told Luke to help her and that she was being raped. He had a rifle that his father had given him in his hand and he shot the attacker.
When Benson and the team get to the house, the mother, Nicole, tells Benson that she let her attacker in because she knew him. It was her 15 year old son’s best friend, Trey. She tells them that he came to her house to do homework because Trey was having a rough time at home. She tells Benson that he was downstairs doing homework and she was upstairs working, she had finished up and went to get a glass of wine when Trey attacked her.
Luke tells Carisi that he got home and when he heard noises coming from the kitchen, he called 911 and then went and grabbed his gun. He didn’t realize it was Trey until after. Trey’s parents are having a hard time figuring out why their son got killed by his best friend. When Fin tells her what they are investigating, the father and mother can’t believe that their son would do that.
Fin and Rollins get a warrant for Trey’s electronic devices and to search his room. While searching his room, they find pictures of Nicole and Trey and they appear to be in bed together. She tells Benson that she had a feeling that Trey was stalking her, but Benson isn’t buying it. Her and Rollins are convinced that they have been having a relationship, but she is of course denying it.
Rollins and Carisi go to the school to talk to some of their classmates and the principle and Rollins finds out that Trey and Ethan, another classmate, had gotten into a fight a week ago. Ethan doesn’t want to talk about why with his father in the room, but he ends up telling them that Nicole had sexually assaulted him at least 10 times and then moved onto Trey. That’s why Ethan and Trey had gotten into a fight.
After talking to Luke, Benson and Rollins talk to the father, he tells them that she has deep psychological issues. That’s one of the reasons why they had gotten divorced. Rollins is wondering how he could let his son live with her if she had all these problems, he tells them that he fought of custody but she convinced the judge that he belonged home with her.
Rollins, Carisi and Benson go to talk to Barba and while they are there, Rollins gets some DNA results off a towel in Nicole’s room. There was fresh semen on the towel that belonged to Trey, but Nicole claimed that Trey was never upstairs. Fin and Benson go to her office to arrest her for third degree rape of a minor and murder.
During the trial, Nicole stuck to her story, but after she was finished testifying, she asked the judge if she could testify again because she needed to change her defense. She admits that she has been lying and that she just wants to tell the truth. Everyone is in shock by this and Barba asks to speak about this in chambers and the judge calls for a short recess.
Her new defense is that she never told her son that Trey was raping her and that Luke knew about her relationship with Trey and he shot him because he was angry about it. She then claims that he knew about the relationship because he saw them having sex and as he watched he masturbated in the doorway. She changed her defense to throw her son under the bus.
Later, Luke’s father shows up at Barba’s to tell Barba, Benson and Carisi that his son wants to plead guilty to murder. Benson asks the father if she could talk to Luke and when she talks to him she tells him that he is not at fault here. He shot Trey because she told him to help her. He’s feeling guilty about killing him, but Benson reassures him that his mother is the real criminal and she talks him into retestifying. He does and the jury finds her guilty of murder and rape of a minor.
