Tonight’s episode of Chicago Fire season 5 started off with Casey packing the stuff in Louie’s old room and Dawson asks him if he is going to bring it to Goodwill. He tells her that he is going to pack it up, not get rid of it. Casey gets to the firehouse and he is clearly emotional because when Herrmann mentions the possibility of their being a rat in the firehouse, he demands that they all scrub the kitchen and common area from top to bottom.
Moments later, Dawson and Brett get a call and when they get there they find a teenage girl, who is on a class trip, on the ground and in a lot of pain. Dawson finds that the young girl is having contractions, but she didn’t even know she was pregnant! Dawson and Brett end up having to deliver Darla’s baby right there! She has a healthy baby girl!
Casey is still on a warpath at the firehouse. Meanwhile, Dawson and Brett are at the hospital with Darla signing some paperwork when Darla’s father walks in and he is on a warpath of his own. He ends up disowning Darla and tells her to go live with her aunt because she is a disappointment for letting this happen. Dawson tries to get him to calm down and explains that Darla needs his support, but he isn’t having it.
Severide heads to the hospital to visit Anna and she is up and walking around. He talks to her about the possibility of her being discharged later in the week. He heads back to the firehouse just in time for a call, but not before he relayed a message to Kidd from Anna. She wanted to thank her for being there for Severide while he was laid up, she tells him that she did that for him, not her.
They head to the call and it’s a fire that is consuming a pretty large house with multiple families in it. Casey finds a man pinned under some debris but he can’t get him out from under it. Boden is calling for everyone to get out of the building and he goes to leave, but the guy pulls a gun. Casey tells him he will be right back, he helps get a young girl out of the house and grabs Severide to help him, but when they go in, the building starts coming down!
Casey and Severide are able to get out, but Casey is bummed that he couldn’t save the guy he went back in for. Once the house is cleared and they are told they could go back in, Casey and Severide head back in to get the guys body, but he’s gone! When the guys start asking him if he is sure this is where the guy was, he screams at them that this is where he left him. Boden sends him back to the firehouse with 81.
When Severide gets back to the firehouse, he tells Casey that OFI has taken over the house fire investigation as long as he is sure there was someone still inside. He says that he wasn’t hallucinating so yes, send in OFI to take a look. Kidd goes to talk to Anna and Anna thanks her in person and then asks Kidd if her and Severide are together. Kidd tells her that they are not together, but you can clearly see that she has feelings for him that she isn’t telling Anna about.
Casey is talking to Dawson later that night about the fire and the guy in the basement that he saw. After they finish talking, Casey goes back to packing Louie’s room and Dawson goes over to check on Darla. When she leaves, Casey finds her engagement ring in a drawer in Louie’s room and it looks like he has realized that he hasn’t really been there for her during this. Dawson gets to the hospital and Darla’s aunt is there and before Dawson can get in to see Darla, she is told by the aunt that Darla’s father raised her on his own. Her mother walked out on them when she was a baby and he has put up with more than Dawson would ever understand. She tells her that maybe before she judges him for not being supportive, she should try and see this shock through his eyes. Dawson tells her that she is right and the aunt tells Dawson that she will let Darla know that she stopped by.
The next day, OFI has closed their investigation and hadn’t found any human remains, but they did find a hatch in the floor and they think that it’s a possibility that he escaped from there. They think the man was a squatter and Casey pays a visit to the owner of the management company that ran it and he is less than cooperative. Meanwhile, Dawson heads to Darla’s father’s house to apologize to him for the way that she spoke to him in the hospital. She is also able to talk him into going back to see Darla and be there for her and his granddaughter because it can all be taken from him in an instant.
Severide goes to see Anna and finds out she is being discharged the next day, he tries to talk her into staying in Chicago instead of going back to Springfield. He then gets a call and she tells him that she is being discharged at 10am, he tells her he will be there and then kisses her before he leaves. He gets to the call with the rest of Squad and they all the doors are locked to the factory and after looking through some open windows, Cruz finds a guy laying on the floor with a severed artery. They are able to get the door open and the medics go in and find a pulse!
Casey is trying to find out where the guy from the basement went when Herrmann goes to talk to him about how he is treating everyone at the house and Dawson walks in. He tells her that they both need to cope with this because they way they are both exerting control is tearing them and their loved ones apart. Casey realizes how crazy he has been and orders food for the house.
Dawson and Casey go to bring Darla some things for her daughter that were Louie’s and when they get there, they see that Darla’s father is embracing the grandfather role really well and Darla named her daughter Gabby. Severide heads to the hospital to see Anna before she is discharged, but she is already gone. The orderly changing the bed sheets tells him that she was discharged a half hour ago but she left something there and tells him maybe he can get it to her. It’s a picture of her rock climbing with a note on it that says “someday…”
